{"id":448774,"date":"2026-02-27T16:31:29","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T16:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/448774\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T16:31:29","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T16:31:29","slug":"westmorland-and-furness-council-plea-to-sort-recycling-despite-bin-lorry-mixing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/448774\/","title":{"rendered":"Westmorland and Furness Council plea to sort recycling despite bin lorry mixing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The issue was highlighted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/live\/czj1nwlg4w1t\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as part of a day of coverage across the BBC in England<\/a>, which is taking a closer look at what happens to the rubbish we all create.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to government figures, recycling rates across the Westmorland and Furness area are at 53% &#8211; above the England average of 42%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;In terms of what you put out on your doorstep, in terms of the recycling materials, most of that is fully recycled,&#8221; Jones told BBC Radio Cumbria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There is some small amount of wastage because of contamination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, the area has the eighth highest amount of household waste thrown away per person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The most recent figures available show people living in the local authority area threw away 460.2kg in a year.
