\u00c9liane Radigue in full, uninterrupted motion, is breathtaking in her thoughts. So it\u2019s wonderful that the filmmakers behind the documentary short \u00c9chos have put that film up for free to honor her memory this week.<\/p>\n

Get ready for sprawling shots of the ARP modular synthesizer and deep reflections on the meaning of music, sound, and listener here (all in her native French, with English subtitles). There are scores and outlines and ideas, flowing as if about to tumble over a waterfall. The camera wanders gently as if following along the train of thought.<\/p>\n

All of it is accompanied by a montage of Radigue compositions.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been thinking a lot about water lately, as always. So I was moved especially by this idea of being inspired by the hydrological cycle and the sea \u2014 the Mediterranean Sea, especially \u2014 here:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is a continuous cycle \u2026 above all, what is associated with water, is the inner richness of its sound content. This particular universe is what I have always wanted to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a symmetry to that, isn\u2019t there? We commune with that ocean of unknowable infinites in music, even if just bobbing on a wave. And then we return to that endless sea.<\/p>\n
