\n The removal of Stoke Mandeville’s Therapies Buildings A & B began in January, and new facilities have now been formally approved by Bucks Council.\n<\/p>\n
\n Charmaine Hope, Chief Estates and Facilities Officer, said: “This project is part of our long\u2011term commitment to transform the Trust estate and improve services.\n<\/p>\n
\n “By creating modern facilities in place of the outdated Therapies building, we\u2019re building a future\u2011ready environment that meets the needs of our community and supports high\u2011quality care.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The pre-fabricated spaces contained asbestos, were one-storey high, and were described as being in a state of ‘disrepair’.\n<\/p>\n
\n The application made for the new building stated: “The proposed site for the new Therapies and Outpatients\u2019 building replicates where the current Therapies buildings are located.”\n<\/p>\n
\n It added: “The existing pre-fabricated buildings are seen by the Trust as not being fit-for-purpose for the operational requirements of a contemporary therapies facility.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The plans say that the trust’s goals for the new development include:\n<\/p>\n
The provision of compliant clinical accommodation for modern therapies treatments,<\/p>\n
Improved building legibility,<\/p>\n
Improved patient service.<\/p>\n

\n A council planning officer stated: “The development would lead to significant improvements to healthcare facilities at the hospital.\n<\/p>\n
\n “As such, the principle of the proposal is strongly supported.\n<\/p>\n
