(Supplied: SA SES)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The South Australian State Emergency Service (SES) deployed a drone with thermal imaging capabilities over Mount Gambier on a hot day in January to record the temperature of common surfaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The temperature of the green measured by the SES was 86.75 degrees Celsius, more than double the air temperature on a 40C day.<\/p>\n<p>A unique angle to see heat<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">South Australian SES chief remote pilot Brad Flew was undertaking a routine drone test flight when he decided to test out its thermal imaging capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It was an opportunity to use drones in the heat and actually test their capabilities,&#8221; Mr Flew said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It gave us some really interesting insights into \u2026 the surface temperatures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man with a round face and galsses weating a SES uniform.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/9613a39a797e7485a9f4041e200aabad.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Brad Flew says he was surprised to see some surfaces measure double the official temperature.
