Liverpool’s domestic rivals have been urged to sign Darwin Nunez in what would be a stunning return to the Premier League. <\/p>\n

Nunez<\/a> joined Liverpool<\/a> from Benfica for an initial \u00a364 million in the summer of 2022 but was unable to justify his hefty price tag given he scored just 25 league goals in 95 matches.<\/p>\n

He popped up with some big moments, including his brace against Newcastle United in an away win, but left Anfield as a flop.<\/p>\n

Liverpool recouped \u00a346.3 million when they offloaded the Uruguayan forward to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal last year.<\/p>\n

Nunez, who has scored nine goals in 25 games across all competitions for the club, is thought to be considering his future after being replaced by Karim Benzema in the squad<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Several English clubs are believed to be interested in bringing him back to the league following his spell with Liverpool, including Newcastle United and Tottenham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Marcel Desailly, however, wants Chelsea<\/a> to go after Nunez, describing him as a ‘smart player’.<\/p>\n

“I would actually recommend Nunez for Chelsea,” ex-Blues captain Desailly told Foot Italia<\/a>. “He\u2019s a very good player, a smart player – he just needs the right environment to perform. When Liverpool identified his potential, they knew what they had statistically.”<\/p>\n

Desailly added: \u201cBut when you start on a bad note, the confidence disappears and the consideration from those around you follows. It\u2019s like Dennis Bergkamp going to Inter Milan – things went completely wrong. Or Roberto Carlos in his early days, shooting the ball into the stands. The confidence wasn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s what happened to Nunez at Liverpool. But the quality is still there. He\u2019s at Al-Hilal now and has scored around six goals in 16 matches [actually nine in 24] – not bad at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chelsea’s current options up front include the likes of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.<\/p>\n

Pedro has scored 14 goals in all competitions – including 11 league goals, while Delap has just two goals to his name this season.<\/p>\n

Nunez’s best return for Liverpool was 11 league goals but considering he had three seasons under his belt in England, he may feel a move back to the Premier League is unfinished business.<\/p>\n
