Kieran Morrison scored twice as Liverpool secured an impressive Premier League 2 win over Tottenham Hotspur to move within two points of the top of the table.<\/p>\n
Morrison’s brace sandwiched a header from debutant Prince Cisse and a superb solo effort from summer signing Will Wright as Rob Page’s side won 4-2 at a wind-swept Academy at Kirkby on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The 19-year-old winger, who was on the bench for the first team last weekend at Nottingham Forest, now has 14 goals for the season with 10 coming in his last six Premier League<\/a> 2 outings.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Alexis Mac Allister details Liverpool change and why squad ‘understand each other’ now<\/a>READ MORE: Liverpool winger ruled out for the season after devastating injury setback<\/a><\/p>\n The Reds<\/a> stand in fourth in the table with three games remaining and are in a strong position for a high seeding going into the end-of-season play-offs.<\/p>\n Liverpool fell behind after only eight minutes in almost comedy fashion. Calvin Ramsay failed to properly clear a dangerous low cross from the right by Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, and Cisse saw his goalline clearance deflect in off Tottenham forward James Wilson.<\/p>\n But the Reds were level on 25 minutes when, after Ramsay won the ball high upfield, Tommy Pilling quickly fed Morrison to progress for a shot that deceived Tottenham goalkeeper Luca Gunter.<\/p>\n Trey Nyoni – who played an hour after coming off the bench for the first team against West Ham United the previous day – missed a great chance after half-time with a misdirected header from Joe Bradshaw’s cross, before Cisse made amends for his earlier error when he headed a cross from Ramsay in off the post on 57 minutes.<\/p>\n Tottenham, though, were level within three minutes when Liverpool were caught on the counter and Russell-Denny finished confidently.<\/p>\n Liverpool went ahead again four minutes from time with a superb goal from Wright, who took a great touch to control a long clearance from goalkeeper Armin Pecsi before taking on a defender, cutting inside and then scoring low from the edge of the area.<\/p>\n And Morrison made the game safe during injury time with a fine finish when found by Wright in the area.<\/p>\n On Saturday, Josh Sonni-Lambie scored his 21st goal of a profitable campaign as Simon Wiles’s U18s earned a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough at Rockliffe Park.<\/p>\n Shortly after the hour, good work by Erik Farkas allowed him to play in Sonni-Lambie for a dinked finish over home goalkeeper Joseph Richardson from the edge of the box.
