Channel 4 is turning up the chaos this March, throwing nine pairs of total strangers into the ultimate social experiment in Handcuffed: The Last Pair Standing – and yes, it’s exactly as unhinged as it sounds.

The new series is already being tipped as a rival to The Traitors and is hosted by former celebrity Traitor himself, Jonathan Ross. In this series, contestants will be physically handcuffed to someone they’ve just met. Not for an hour. Not for a challenge. But 24/7.

That means eating together, sleeping together, getting dressed together, arguing over the bathroom together – every, single day.

The last duo still standing will bag a £100,000 jackpot, but this is reality TV, so of course there’s a catch. Each pair has been deliberately matched with someone whose views clash wildly with their own. Think: Married At First Sight, but with your ideological nemesis.

The concept takes inspiration from the 80s action-comedy Midnight Run, where Robert De Niro plays a bounty hunter chained to a mob-targeted accountant played by Charles Grodin.

“At first they hate each other, but by the end of the film, they’ve got past their differences,” production boss David Glover told Deadline. “By the end, they almost love each other. That kind of comedy is often done with just two people. So I started talking to Channel 4 about divided Britain and a divided society, and how we could capture that in an interesting way.”

As the series airs, read on for everything you need to know about the cast, including our verdict on who we think might be able to make it all the way.

Anthony, 60, is a self-made millionaire with a passion for vintage motors and a self-appointed mission to restore old-school etiquette. Firmly set in his ways, he believes good manners are in short supply, and he’s determined to prove it.

His unlikely other half is Tilly, 37, a bartender and cleaner whose mum has already reminded her to watch her language on camera.

Our verdict: Straight-talking and unapologetically outspoken, Tilly couldn’t be more different from her polished new partner. But if she reins in the swearing, Anthony’s old-school manners could offer her a new perspective, while her relaxed, no-filter energy might just encourage him to loosen up a little.

Jo and Reuben"two"pinterest"

Next up are 39-year-old Jo, a plus-size fashion entrepreneur and outspoken feminist, and 29-year-old property developer Reuben, a self-confessed gym-loving “alpha male.”

Our verdict:With such clashing outlooks and personalities, this pairing looks set to spark from the very start. However, they might not be as different as they first appear. While they sit on opposite ends of the spectrum, both clearly care about confidence and feeling good in their own bodies. If they can communicate that shared value with a bit of mutual respect, these two could genuinely go the distance.

George and Benjamin"two"pinterest"

72 Films

Retired prison officer George, 60, is initially delighted to arrive at the vast 14th-century Somerset estate of 79-year-old aristocrat Sir Benjamin Slade, the 7th Baronet of Maunsel. A proud, no-nonsense Cockney, George is worlds away from his upper-crust counterpart and his traditional way of life.

It doesn’t take long for tensions to surface, with their differences laid bare – particularly when George spots a painting by Adolf Hitler in the house, a discovery he strongly challenges but Sir Benjamin casually dismisses.

Our verdict: George’s no-nonsense Cockney attitude and Sir Benjamin’s eccentric aristocratic ways make for an entertaining clash. However, it’s hard to see them finding enough common ground to go the distance.

Charlie, 44, sees herself as a traditional, conservative housewife. A self-described prude, she’s eager to step outside her comfort zone by being handcuffed to a complete stranger. Her partner is 32-year-old Rob, a towering 6ft 7in heavily-tattooed adult content creator. Despite their obvious differences, the pair initially hit it off, until Rob reveals his line of work, sparking a clash of values.

He previously admitted struggling with: “Sleeping, tossing and turning, and I know I’m not going to be able to have a w*** and that’s going to be hard – as an adult content creator it’s a daily ritual.”

Our verdict: Charlie and Rob have very different lifestyles, but their willingness to understand each other could help them navigate their differences – though it’s still uncertain if they’ll go the distance.

Nina and Sara"two"pinterest"

72 Films

Hairdresser Nina, 53, is taking part in the show to test her Christian faith and see just how patient she really is. Her partner is Sara, 55, an outspoken mum of seven who loves to talk and has described herself as the “female Nigel Farage”. She is “never one to sugar‑coat her thoughts – though her honesty sometimes offends others quicker than she intends” – something Nina soon realises.

Our verdict: With Sara’s outspoken, no-filter style and Nina’s calm, reflective nature, this pairing is bound to face constant challenges. Their very different personalities make it difficult to see them going the distance.

Claire and Bambi"assemble"pinterest"

72 Films

Horse trainer and countryside advocate Claire, 48, leads a busy, hands-on life, and she’s paired with 29-year-old Bambi, a city-based model and content creator who enjoys a more relaxed, leisurely lifestyle. With such contrasting routines, the big question is whether Bambi can keep pace with Claire’s demanding schedule.

Our verdict: Claire and Bambi might have more in common than it first seems. While Claire’s work is physically demanding, content creation also requires long hours, focus, and dedication, so if they respect each other’s grind, they could find a surprising balance. We’re not ruling these two out for the win.

Frank and Lin"shopping"pinterest"

72 Films

At first, life in London seems to be going smoothly for 27-year-old Green Party councillor Frank and 38-year-old housing lawyer Lin, who is also a social media content creator and outspoken political commentator. A regular on Jeremy Vine, Lin doesn’t shy away from sharing her views – including her thoughts on the Reform Party during a recent appearance – and a surprising revelation soon leaves Frank completely speechless.

Our verdict: Frank and Lin clearly share strong political passions, but their equally strong personalities are likely to clash. With so many potential sparks, it’s easy to see them butting heads throughout their time together. Lin also hinted on her Instagram that she “was going through it” on the show and that her followers should tune in if they want to see her at her “worst”.

Bob and Chris"two"pinterest"

72 Films

Bob, 70, is a proud Yorkshireman who cherishes the peace of rural life and the slower pace away from the city. He’s paired with 38-year-old Chris, a London-based youth worker who thrives in the hustle and bustle of city life. Their contrasting lifestyles are soon tested when Chris learns a shocking incident from Bob’s past, leaving him to question whether he can continue with the experiment.

Our verdict: Bob and Chris have very different lifestyles, but the success of their pairing will likely hinge on how they navigate the revelation from Bob’s past. If they can work through it, they could make it further than expected.

Morag and Angie"two"pinterest"

72 Films

Eco-warrior, vegan campaigner and self-proclaimed tree hugger Morag, 64, is deeply committed to protecting the environment and living sustainably. She’s paired with 44-year-old Angie, a petrolhead and beauty salon owner, whose love of fast cars and high-octane lifestyle couldn’t be more different from Morag’s green-focused ways.

Our verdict: Morag and Angie are almost polar opposites, but their differences could make for an interesting dynamic. If they can respect each other’s lifestyles, they might find a way to coexist, though it won’t be without its sparks.

Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing starts on Channel 4 on Monday 2nd March at 9pm.
