As we\u2019ve been expecting<\/a>, Google is rolling out a complete redesign of Pixel Now Playing with a dedicated app that\u2019s available via the Play Store.<\/p>\n

The previous interface powered by Android System Intelligence had a very old layout. This redesign uses a three-tab layout that leverages a Material 3 Expressive floating toolbar. The first tab lets you \u201cTap to see what\u2019s playing\u201d and see results. After the match or when you\u2019re viewing the other two pages, a FAB (floating action button) appears at the right to start another song search.<\/p>\n

A reverse-chronological History is next, with the ability to search at the top. Google touts how you can \u201cview & curate,\u201d with this list view heavily leveraging M3 Expressive.<\/p>\n

Swipe left to quickly \u201cShare,\u201d \u201cAdd to favorites,\u201d and \u201cListen on\u201d (if you connect a music service). Tap the three-dot overflow menu at the right to \u201cRemove from history,\u201d while YouTube Music lets you \u201cAdd to liked songs\u201d and \u201cAdd to playlist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Favorites is the app\u2019s final tab and works like before. Now Playing offers a lockscreen shortcut, with results appearing slightly larger at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a nice Quick Settings Tile that\u2019s best used in the 2\u00d71 configuration, with Google showing your last match. Tap to start a new search and long-press to directly open History.<\/p>\n

Visiting the Play Store listing<\/a> lets you \u201cUpdate\u201d and install the revamped experience. This gives you a new app icon in your launcher and homescreen that fits the modern Pixel blue aesthetic.<\/p>\n
