We begin with the future of H\u00e9ctor \u00c1lvarez, who finished as Lidl-Trek\u2019s best rider at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne in 29th place. The 19-year-old Spaniard was already regarded as a rising star, despite some injury issues over the past 18 months. He placed third in the U23 Euros road race last year, and when I spoke to him at the finish, he told me all about his dream of one day winning Paris-Roubaix and how it was uinque for him growing up in Spain, with a passion for one-day races over multi-day events.<\/p>\n

Several readers have reached out, asking if he\u2019s on the move next year because he\u2019s listed as a free agent for 2027, but I can confirm that he\u2019s locked in with Lidl-Trek and will be part of their WorldTour team in 2027 and 2028. There\u2019s no official statement from the team yet, but I expect it will be announced soon. I wouldn\u2019t be surprised, given that his deal was probably agreed upon some time ago, that new terms are negotiated over the next 12 months in order to extend his contract even further.<\/p>\n

I think I\u2019ve mentioned this in passing before, but Lidl-Trek Future Racing are also bringing in Austrian climber Michael Hettegger for 2027. He\u2019s just 17 but has already agreed to join the German team next year. He\u2019ll be joined by Leon Atkins, also 17, who is moving to the team next season. With a junior setup also in the pipeline, this is quickly becoming the gold standard for youth development, if it\u2019s not already.<\/p>\n
