Since Harry Styles<\/a>\u2019 last album, 2022\u2019s \u2018Harry\u2019s House\u2019<\/a>, the pop<\/a> superstar has made some changes in his life. That record arrived amid a period of constant gossip and speculation around his personal life, and in the years since, he\u2019s tried to wrest back control of his privacy, using his time off to travel and find a new pace. Where, four years ago, it felt like barely a day went by without a blind post sharing supposed details of his relationships, now you\u2019re far more likely to see posts about his marathon running.<\/p>\n

That change is something that\u2019s reflected in \u2018Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally\u2019. Styles\u2019 previous albums could \u2013 and were \u2013 easily linked back to the hearsay surrounding him at the time, but here, it feels like he\u2019s nailed writing songs driven by his personal experiences without centring them around the details and facts. Sure, you can speculate what he\u2019s talking about when he admits \u201cI wanted to behave \/ But I know I\u2019ll do it again\u201d on the zigzagging \u2018Pop\u2019, but the conclusion feels far less concrete than before.<\/p>\n

The results are an album that feels liberated and full of light, even in its more melancholy moments. Styles has spoken about spending 2025 \u201csaying yes to everything\u201d<\/a> and \u2018Kiss All The Time\u2026\u2019 welcomes in everything \u2013 apprehensively reconnecting with an old lover on the dreamy beauty of \u2018Taste Back\u2019 (one of three songs on the album to feature backing vocals from Wolf Alice<\/a>\u2019s Ellie Rowsell), thinking you\u2019ve found a companion only to be proved wrong on \u2018The Waiting Game\u2019 and losing yourself on the dancefloor (the record\u2019s real disco moment, \u2018Dance No More\u2019). It subtly makes the case for allowing yourself to let go and feel everything; an acknowledgement that to really live isn\u2019t just to only experience the good.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Musically, the pop star\u2019s attitude to accepting every invitation and challenge bleeds into the record, too. It\u2019s the most exploratory album of his career so far, trying out new things and steering his ship in new directions. Lead single \u2018Aperture\u2019 set the tone with its LCD Soundsystem<\/a>-inspired electronic build, and the rest of the album largely follows suit \u2013 with some surprise deviations along the way.<\/p>\n

\u2018Are You Listening Yet?\u2019 matches marching drums (played by Sons Of Kemet<\/a> and The Smile<\/a>\u2019s Tom Skinner<\/a>) and trumpets with Styles delivering verses of Sprechgesang vocals that, as well as LCD, nod to post-punk<\/a> or his former support act Wet Leg<\/a>. \u2018Ready, Steady, Go!\u2019\u2019s elastic bass feels like it could be from an early Metronomy<\/a> song, while the waltzing \u2018Coming Up Roses\u2019 \u2013 premiered last week at one of Fred Again..<\/a>\u2019s London gigs \u2013 drops the electronics in favour of sweeping strings.<\/p>\n

Largely, Styles taking a new approach to things really works \u2013 \u2018Kiss All The Time\u2026\u2019 feels like an album that you\u2019ll really want to spend a lot of time with, letting all its layers envelope you. But, very occasionally, there are things that don\u2019t quite hit the target. \u2018American Girls\u2019 is fun but easily forgettable when held up against the rest of the tracklist, and the acoustic moment of penultimate song \u2018Paint By Numbers\u2019 is a little jarring between \u2018Dance No More\u2019 and the gorgeous synth soar of \u2018Carla\u2019s Song\u2019. As Styles has shown us, though, even life\u2019s blips have value, and these instances can\u2019t stop his fourth album from feeling like a triumph.<\/p>\n
