We are only eight weeks away from the first Monday in May, which means celebrities and stylists are in the fashion trenches trying to decipher the intimidatingly vague dress code for this year\u2019s Met Gala, \u201cFashion Is Art.\u201d The theme is a nod to the Metropolitan Museum of Art\u2019s exhibition \u201cCostume Art,\u201d which will \u201chighlight the centrality of the dressed body in the museum\u2019s vast collection.\u201d That sounds trickier to honor on the red carpet than, say, that time Rihanna dressed as a sexy pope<\/a> for the \u201cFashion and the Catholic Imagination\u201d exhibition in 2018.<\/p>\n Thankfully, Lauren S\u00e1nchez Bezos<\/a>, the Met Gala\u2019s main sponsor (alongside her husband, Jeff Bezos), can offer some insight. \u201cWhen Anna called me and said, \u2018Do you want to co-chair and also be the sponsors of the Met?,\u2019 I was so honored,\u201d she said this week on the Today show,<\/a> where she appeared to promote her new children\u2019s book<\/a> about \u201can undersea adventure filled with breathtaking biodiversity and the power of self-acceptance.\u201d When host Craig Melvin asked what we can expect to see on the red carpet, S\u00e1nchez Bezos helpfully explained, \u201cThese designers are true artists. Like Elsa Schiaparelli was best friends with Salvador Dal\u00ed. And Salvador Dal\u00ed\u2019s medium was a canvas, and hers was, you know, clothing.\u201d Does that help clear things up?<\/p>\n Ultimately, it doesn\u2019t really matter whether S\u00e1nchez Bezos can explain the theme, because whatever she wears (sounds like Schiaparelli?) will probably have the AWOK<\/a>. Vogue\u2019s Anna Wintour said in November<\/a> that she thinks S\u00e1nchez Bezos will be a \u201cwonderful asset\u201d to the event. Wintour also sat with the couple at Fashion Week in Paris earlier this year, giving them plenty of time to plan their looks.
