{"id":458465,"date":"2026-03-05T07:01:27","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T07:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/458465\/"},"modified":"2026-03-05T07:01:27","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T07:01:27","slug":"nasa-dragonfly-expected-to-launch-for-saturns-moon-in-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/458465\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA Dragonfly expected to launch for Saturn&#8217;s moon in 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"sub-text\">NASA launched ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) on Nov. 13, 2025, which is a mission to investigate how the Sun\u00a0continues to influence Mars and will begin to study space weather in new ways.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A big step in the exploration of other planets in our solar system is within reach as <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/nasa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NASA<\/a> makes a big announcement.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Scientists and engineers at NASA have developed a first-of-its-kind rotorcraft to explore another moon, capable of flying to various locations like we haven\u2019t before.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The rotorcraft, <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_3\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/dragonfly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dragonfly<\/a>, is on a mission to explore and investigate <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/saturn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Saturn\u2019s<\/a> <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/moon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">moon<\/a>, Titan. It is an octocopter the size of a small car with four pairs of counter-rotating, three-bladed rotors.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/nasa-rocket-auroras-northern-lights-auroral-electricity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NASA ROCKET TO CONDUCT &#8216;CT SCAN&#8217; OF NORTHERN LIGHTS TO HELP UNDERSTAND AURORAL ELECTRICITY<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Titan is a very interesting target, very unique in our solar system,&#8221; Dr. Zibi Turtle of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory said. &#8220;It\u2019s the only moon that has a dense atmosphere.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Notably, the atmosphere is actually denser than <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_7\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Earth\u2019s<\/a>, according to NASA. The <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/atmosphere\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">atmosphere<\/a> of the Titans is mostly nitrogen, like ours, but it also contains <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/learn\/why-methane-has-taken-center-stage-in-climate-change-plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">methane<\/a>. This means there are many very complex, rich carbon molecules in the system.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_10\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/james-webb-telescope-captures-detailed-images-dying-star-space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">SEE IT: JAMES WEBB TELESCOPE CAPTURES DETAILED IMAGES OF DYING STAR<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Because Titan is a moon in the outer <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_11\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/life-outside-solar-system-k2-18b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">solar system<\/a> (unlike ours), its crust is made of water ice. That is what experts are hoping to discover.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_14\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/nasa-delays-artemis-ii-launch-early-april-update-artemis-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NASA ANNOUNCES CRITICAL CHANGES TO ARTEMIS MISSION&#8217;S RETURN TO THE MOON<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Flying several miles each flight through the yellowish, smoggy haze of Titan\u2019s nitrogen-rich atmosphere, Dragonfly, will stop at a variety of geologic sites, where it will collect samples of surface material for analysis inside the rotorcraft by a suite of scientific instruments,&#8221; read a statement from NASA, explaining the process of the rotorcraft.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The dragonfly will travel up to 70 miles across Titan during its planned 3.3-year-long mission. According to NASA, the rotorcraft is expected to make one flight every one to two Titan days, which is called a Tslo and lasts about 16 Earth days.
