Now, wasting no time, Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and development studios Game Freak and Omega Force have announced the first limited-time event adding new Pokémon.

As relaxed as Pokopia is, this first event announcement suggests we’ll suffer a bit of FOMO with its post-launch updates. The More Spores for Hoppip event is adding cute little critters Hoppip, Skiploom and Jumpluff to the game, but the big (and maybe horrifying, for the completionists out there) news is “these Pokémon can’t be encountered outside of this event”.

Time-limited events are standard practice for Pokémon games of course, and there’s always hope this one will return at some point based on player feedback, as others have in the likes of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, but right now the official Pokémon page is underlining we’ll only get to befriend and welcome them during the event. It’ll run from Monday, 9th March at 1:00pm PDT (8pm GMT) to Tuesday, 24th March at 12:59pm PDT (6:59am on 25th March here in the UK)”.

“Special cotton spores that can be collected will also appear during this time. Once you’ve gathered some, they can be exchanged for picnic-themed furniture items,” the reveal adds. Those (seemingly brand-new) items can then be used to create habitats which are liked by Skiploom and Jumpluff too.

Another interesting limitation is that players will need to advance up to a certain point in the story before being able to befriend these Pokémon: “Please note that this event will only be available in towns with a rebuilt Pokémon Center.” Moreover, the multiplayer Cloud Islands won’t have access to the event, which is a bit disappointing.

Last but not least, it’s been announced an extra bonus item (not tied to the event) will be awaiting players until 31st January, 2027. This is an in-game Ditto rug that looks cute instead of deeply unsettling like the human-shaped Ditto protagonists.

To make sure you don’t miss anything during your journey, stick to our Pokémon Pokopia walkthrough and full Pokédex list.

Pokémon Pokopia is out now, and it’s pretty sweet if you ask us.
