Manchester is set to host a stunning new Pablo Picasso exhibition which will feature a series of never-before-seen works.<\/p>\n

Picasso: A Legacy will be held at Castle Fine Art, on King Street in Deansgate<\/a>, and will consist of 35 original works created on paper and ceramics by the artist from the mid-1930\u2019s until his death in 1973. These works have never gone on public display before.<\/p>\n

The free-to-attend exhibition will be held at the 4,000 sq ft two-floor art gallery<\/a> from Monday (March 9) until May 4. The collection will explore the artist\u2019s lovers and muses, mythological alter egos, playful zoomorphic ceramics, as well as \u2018feats of frantic artistic output\u2019 in Picasso\u2019s final decade.<\/p>\n

The Spanish painter, born in 1881, is considered to be one of the best-known figures in 20th-century art and has become synonymous with the Cubism movement which emerged in the early 1900s. Some of his most notable works include Guernica, Girl Before a Mirror, La Reve, and his 1901 Self-Portrait. At the time of his death at the age of 91, Picasso had left more than 45,000 unsold works in his estate including 7,089 drawings, 3,222 ceramics, 1,885 paintings, 1,228 sculptures and 150 sketchbooks.<\/p>\n

The Manchester exhibition will span across ceramics, portraits and individual editions, as well as complete portfolios and books, including Nature morte aux poires et au pichet from 1960 and 1954\u2019s La Guerre et la paix. Ceramics on display will include the three-dimensional Joueur de fl\u00fbte (1951) and Yan soleil (1963), which were both created during Picasso\u2019s residency in the south of France.<\/p>\n

Portraits in the exhibition will include Femme Endormie (Dormeuse) (1962\/63), which features Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Walter, and 1945\u2019s T\u00eate dejeune fille 1, where Fran\u00e7oise Gilot is featured as the subject matter.<\/p>\n

It is the latest exhibition from Castle Fine Art, which in recent years has featured collections from a varied roster of artists including Romero Britto and James McQueen. In 2024, the Deansgate venue also featured artwork by Culture Club frontman Boy George,<\/a> depicting famous musicians like Prince, Davie Bowie and Madonna.<\/p>\n

Picasso: A Legacy will be on view from 10am on March 9 until May 4, 2026 at Castle Fine Art, 12-14 King Street, M2 6AG.
