Crescent Pharma Limited\u202fis recalling one batch of Ramipril 5\u202fmg Capsules as a precautionary\u00a0measure\u202fbecause a\u00a0potential\u00a0manufacturing error\u00a0may have led\u00a0to\u00a0two\u00a0blood pressure medicines\u00a0being\u00a0packaged\u00a0incorrectly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This follows a complaint from a pharmacy after a patient reported that a pack labelled\u202fRamipril 5\u202fmg Capsules (Batch Number\u202fGR164099)\u202fcontained\u202fblister strips of Amlodipine 5\u202fmg Tablets inside the sealed carton.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both\u00a0blood pressure medications are\u00a0produced\u00a0by the same manufacturer, at\u00a0the same site,\u202fand the error appears to have occurred during secondary packaging of the blister strips into the cartons.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
Patients who take Ramipril are\u00a0advised to check\u00a0the packaging of their medicine for batch number\u00a0GR164099\u00a0and\u00a0return\u00a0any\u00a0containing\u00a0blister\u00a0strips labelled \u201cAmlodipine\u201d to\u00a0their\u00a0pharmacist.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The risk\u00a0to patients\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0accidental substitution\u00a0of one\u00a0widely used\u00a0blood pressure medication for another\u00a0is low.\u202fThe\u00a0most likely side\u00a0effect\u00a0would be dizziness related to\u00a0low\u00a0blood\u00a0pressure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you take\u00a0Ramipril,\u00a0check the packaging for batch number GR164099.\u00a0The batch number and expiry date information can be found on\u00a0the\u00a0outer\u00a0carton.\u00a0If you\u00a0have received this batch,\u00a0check that the\u00a0medication\u00a0name on the carton matches the\u00a0blister\u00a0strips\u00a0inside.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
If the carton\u00a0contains\u00a0blister strips that are labelled\u00a0as\u00a0Amlodipine 5 mg tablets, contact your\u00a0dispensing pharmacy. If the carton\u00a0contains\u00a0blister strips that are\u00a0correctly\u00a0labelled\u00a0as\u00a0Ramipril 5 mg Capsules, you do not need to take further action.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If you have an\u00a0affected\u00a0pack\u00a0and\u00a0think\u00a0you\u00a0may\u00a0have taken the Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets that were\u00a0supplied\u00a0in\u00a0error,\u00a0and\u00a0you\u00a0are\u00a0currently experiencing any side effects, then please seek\u00a0immediate medical advice.\u00a0\u00a0Please take the leaflet that came with your medicine and any remaining tablets with you to your pharmacy or GP practice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
If\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0already taken Amlodipine, please\u00a0be reassured that there is\u00a0a\u00a0very low\u00a0risk to\u00a0your\u00a0health.\u00a0Both medications are used to treat high blood pressure, however because your body may not be used to a different type of medicine, your blood pressure may become lower than normal,\u00a0and you may experience dizziness because of taking amlodipine.\u00a0\u00a0Any suspected adverse reactions should also be reported via\u00a0the\u202fMHRA Yellow Card scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n The MHRA\u202fhas\u00a0advised pharmacy and healthcare professionals to\u00a0return all remaining stock to their suppliers.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Notes to editors\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
