Marathon<\/a> is getting a universally positive response on storefronts like the PS Store<\/a>, proving fans are at least enjoying Bungie\u2019s newest shooter.<\/p>\n

Right now on Sony\u2019s storefront, the game has a 4.77 rating based on 3k reviews. If we compare that to another recent live service shooter, the dying Highguard<\/a>, it has a 3.1 rating \u2013 albeit based on 14k reviews.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a similar story on Steam<\/a>, where the extraction FPS has \u2018Very Positive\u2019 reviews so far, where Highguard is considered \u2018Mixed\u2019.<\/p>\n

Obviously, many of you will recall Concord<\/a> was largely panned by users, so this represents a much stronger foundation for Marathon to build off.<\/p>\n

But of course, the game\u2019s real success will be measured by its player retention, and it\u2019s far too early to draw any conclusions about that. The game peaked with 88k concurrent players<\/a> on Steam on launch day, and dipped down to about 30k overnight. We don\u2019t have data for PlayStation or Xbox.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a sturdy if unspectacular start, but the weekend will bring more data, and the coming months will give us our biggest indication of the game\u2019s longevity.<\/p>\n

For the record, we\u2019ve decided to hold our review<\/a> until the endgame mode Cryo Archive launches later in the month, but we\u2019re looking forward to sharing our thoughts once we\u2019ve seen everything the game has to offer.<\/p>\n
