EXCLUSIVE: Steps star Faye Tozer opens up about embracing her milestone 50th birthday, her beauty tweakments and starring in Mean Girls musical<\/p>\n

Faye is turning 50 and is doing everything she can to stay youthful<\/p>\n

Turning the big 5-0, to some, may seem daunting, but for Steps star Faye Tozer she\u2019s taking it all in her stride \u2013 so much so she\u2019s dubbing it \u201cthe new 40\u201d. It\u2019s no surprise she\u2019s so optimistic about her age, after all in this chapter of her life she has a lot to smile about.<\/p>\n

Faye is blessed with a thriving stage career, a loving son and a job where she can work with her four best friends \u2014 her Steps bandmates Claire Richards, Ian \u2018H\u2019 Watkins, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so, so grateful that I feel healthy, I\u2019ve got incredible friends and family, I\u2019m working and I\u2019m blessed because getting old is a privilege,\u201d explains Faye, who turned 50 last November.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are quite a few people that I had in my life that aren\u2019t here any more and so every year is an absolute blessing and it\u2019s really empowering as a female to say, \u2018I am 50, look what I\u2019ve done, look what an incredible life I\u2019ve led and I\u2019m so excited to see what the next chapter brings.\u2019 I think 50 is potentially the new 40, as they say.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what are Faye\u2019s tried and trusted secrets for feeling good? \u201cI try to sleep well as much as I can,\u201d she tells us. \u201cI surround myself with positive people and positive things. I do exercise as part of my job, and that makes me feel good. I like to go out with my friends. Getting older, my body is feeling different nowadays, so I have to pace myself a little bit more, but that\u2019s OK too. That\u2019s all part of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t be doing any backflips anytime soon though and I don\u2019t have to do the splits,\u201d she laughs, remembering the high-energy tours of Steps\u2019 early days.<\/p>\n

However, Faye does have a confession to make when it comes to her youthful glow. \u201cI cheat like the rest of them,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m not going to lie and say I don\u2019t have tweakments, because absolutely I do. [Faye has previously discussed having Morpheus8, a form of radiofrequency microneedling done to boost collagen, and has endorsed a Farm Girl Facial, which aims to lift and revitalise the skin using natural ingredients.] It makes me feel good. I don\u2019t do it for anybody else apart from myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Life right now is busy for the former Strictly 2018 contestant. She\u2019s about to embark on a UK-wide tour of the stage musical adaptation of chick flick Mean Girls, playing Mrs George. Off stage, she\u2019s a doting mum to her 17-year-old son Benjamin and, when she\u2019s not touring, lives happily in the North East.<\/p>\n

Faye has attempted to get her son interested in the industry she loves, but he\u2019s set on building his own career in engineering, far away from the spotlight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried him out with all these different musical instruments and I took him to dance classes,\u201d Faye says. \u201cHe was interested, but he isn\u2019t somebody who wants to be in the public eye. He is not a natural performer. He\u2019s just his happy, low-key self, and he\u2019s super bright and funny.<\/p>\n

Faye is known for her role as a singer in pop group, Steps<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m super proud of him and really grateful that he is level-headed and probably more grown up than all of us lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benjamin is so private, he\u2019s decided to come off social media altogether \u2013 something that has delighted Faye. \u201cHe said he felt like he was wasting his time, one click led to three hours and he just decided it was a total waste of time and he could be doing better things,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis friends and his girlfriend have social media and they do a little bit but he\u2019s not ruled by it. I feel really, really blessed that he hasn\u2019t got that as an issue in his life, but I can see why it is a problem for others.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to her band \u201cfamily\u201d, Steps will always have a special place in Faye\u2019s heart. The group recently came together for the launch of the Steps musical Here & Now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always been grafters,\u201d she admits. \u201cI think the fact that we\u2019re still the original line-up massively helps. We\u2019re doing it because we want to and not because we\u2019ve been told to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we always felt like we were underdogs. We didn\u2019t ever expect people to keep supporting us. We do our tours, have a breather, have a bit of home life, be parents, and then come back.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for now her main focus is treading the boards again in Mean Girls. As well as Mrs George, Faye will also play Cady Heron\u2019s mum and teacher Mrs Norbury.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever been more than one character in a show before. So to do three at one time, I felt would be a really funny thing to do,\u201d she laughs. For the character of Mrs George, the outrageous mother of Queen Bee Regina, Faye was inspired by a certain A-list heiress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came across Paris Hilton\u2019s social media page and I was like, \u2018Oh my God, Mrs George is Paris Hilton!\u2019 With the pink velour tracksuits and the princess hair. I just thought that was something I could tap into for Mrs George.\u201d<\/p>\n

Faye admits the notion of casting celebrities in musicals will always be an \u201congoing conversation\u201d but, ultimately, she is confident she has earned her stripes when it comes to performing on stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s interesting being a female of my age coming from a pop background and seeing what roles there are available for somebody like me. So when this one came up, it was a no-brainer.\u201d<\/p>\n
