{"id":463034,"date":"2026-03-07T18:37:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T18:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/463034\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T18:37:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T18:37:13","slug":"prince-michael-of-kent-attends-crufts-as-wife-princess-michael-bedridden-after-stroke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/463034\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince Michael of Kent attends Crufts as wife Princess Michael \u2018bedridden after stroke\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prince Michael of Kent has been seen carrying out a public<br \/>\nengagement despite reports that his wife, <a href=\"https:\/\/royalcentral.co.uk\/royal-news\/princess-michael-of-kent-seriously-unwell-following-stroke-216965\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\nPrincess Michael of Kent, is seriously ill after suffering a<br \/>\nstroke.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 83-year-old royal travelled to Birmingham to attend the<br \/>\nopening of the world-famous Crufts, where he met competitors and<br \/>\ntheir dogs at the four-day show.<\/p>\n<p>A lifelong enthusiast for dogs, the prince has served as<br \/>\npresident of The Royal Kennel Club since 1982. During his visit he<br \/>\nwas seen greeting exhibitors and spending time with several of the<br \/>\nanimals competing at the event, including a border collie.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement shared online, the Kennel Club said it had been<br \/>\n\u201chonoured\u201d to welcome the prince, describing his visit as<br \/>\nrecognition of the dedication and expertise behind the sport of<br \/>\ndogs as well as the continuing focus on canine health and<br \/>\nresponsible ownership.<\/p>\n<p>The appearance comes at a difficult time for the family. Friends<br \/>\nrecently said that Princess Michael, 81, had suffered a stroke and<br \/>\nwas now bedridden.<\/p>\n<p>The couple, who live at Kensington Palace, have endured a series<br \/>\nof challenges in recent years. The princess previously broke both<br \/>\nwrists in a fall on the palace stairs while carrying a number of<br \/>\ncoats, leaving her temporarily unable to carry out everyday<br \/>\ntasks.<\/p>\n<p>Her health struggles followed heart surgery and came after the<br \/>\ndeath of her son-in-law, Thomas Kingston, who was married to their<br \/>\ndaughter Lady Gabriella Windsor.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their advancing years, Prince Michael and his older<br \/>\nbrother, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, have continued to appear at<br \/>\nengagements and royal gatherings. Both men, who are first cousins<br \/>\nof the late Queen Elizabeth II, remain regular figures at<br \/>\nceremonial occasions and charity events.<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1942, Prince Michael is the son of Prince George, Duke<br \/>\nof Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark. At the time of<br \/>\nhis birth he was seventh in line to the throne, though he now<br \/>\nstands much further down the succession.<\/p>\n<p>Although not a working royal, he continues to support a number<br \/>\nof organisations and charitable causes.
