A member of the Deadliest Catch team has shared what happened in the build up to Todd Meadow\u2019s tragic death. <\/p>\n
Deckhand Trey John Green III has revealed that Todd, 25, was standing ina 900lb crabbing pot when he went overboard.<\/p>\n
According to Green, the boat\u2019s crew members were taking it in turns to get getting into the pots to sift for crabs brought up from the ocean floor. <\/p>\n
However, for unknown reasons the pot Todd was in went over the boat rails and into the freezing water of the Bering Sea. <\/p>\n
Green, 30, told Page Six<\/a> that the crew screamed as Todd went into the water which was \u2018only a degree or two above freezing.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s one of those things that none of us really understand. I don\u2019t know what happened,\u2019 Green explained.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018The pot [was] sitting in the launcher, and Todd was actually inside the pot.<\/p>\n \u2018We\u2019re like, \u201cHoly cr*p, he\u2019s gonna sink to the bottom. We\u2019re not gonna have any way to get this pot back up.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n Green recalled that Todd somehow managed to swim out of the pot despite the cold, adding he was a \u2018fighter\u2019 and \u2018trying to hang in there\u2019.<\/p>\n He claims that Todd has only been in the water for three to four minutes before the team\u2019s rescue swimmer, Steve Porter, managed to get his body back on board.<\/p>\n \t\t The crew then spent the next 45 minutes doing \u2018everything they could do\u2019 trying to revive him before making the tough decision to store Todd\u2019s body in a freezer and make the 12 hour journey back to Dutch Harbor. <\/p>\n Green was keen to emphasise that Todd was doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing when the accident happened.<\/p>\n According to Green everything that was caught on camera by the Discovery Channel crew, who were on board to film the finals episodes of season 22.<\/p>\n Todd\u2019s mother has has asked Deadliest Catch producers not to air her son\u2019s death<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018We don\u2019t want to see any footage of the accident and do not want Discovery to air any of that footage or make money off of our son\u2019s death,\u2019 she told TMZ.<\/p>\n Instead, his family has asked they show footage of him crabbing and doing what he loved is shown, adding: \u2018We hope they only air good things of Todd on that boat.\u2019<\/p>\n A GoFundMe<\/a> has also been launched to support Meadows\u2019 family, which includes his three young sons, with funeral costs and other expenses.<\/p>\n The US Coast Guard is still investigating the cause of Todd Meadows death. <\/p>\n Metro has reached out to Warner Bros.<\/a> Discovery for further comment.<\/p>\n Got a story?<\/p>\n If you\u2019ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.co.uk<\/a> entertainment team by emailing us celebtips@metro.co.uk, calling 020 3615 2145 or by visiting our Submit Stuff<\/a> page \u2013 we\u2019d love to hear from you.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"15614377](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SEI_287832841-40b2.jpg\")
