{"id":463600,"date":"2026-03-08T02:51:06","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T02:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/463600\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T02:51:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T02:51:06","slug":"canelo-alvarez-addresses-his-retirement-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/463600\/","title":{"rendered":"Canelo Alvarez addresses his retirement plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/canelo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canelo Alvarez<\/a> has outlined how much longer he could remain in the sport, before hanging up his gloves and calling time on a decorated career.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old is already destined for a place in the Hall of Fame, having become a four-division world champion, but remains eager to compete at the highest level.<\/p>\n<p>Since making his professional debut in 2005, the Mexican has amassed 68 outings and become a two-time undisputed king at 168lbs, claiming notable victories over the likes of Callum Smith and Caleb Plant.<\/p>\n<p>His most significant win, however, arrived at middleweight, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/24693564\/canelo-alvarez-defeats-gennady-golovkin-majority-decision-middleweight-title-fight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Alvarez edged a highly-contentious majority decision<\/a> in his 2018 rematch with Gennady Golovkin.<\/p>\n<p>More controversial was their first encounter, the previous year, when many believed that Golovkin had done enough to claim a convincing victory, only for the Kazakh to instead come away with a draw.<\/p>\n<p>But still, Canelo received ample credit for emerging triumphant in their sequel, before dethroning Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light-heavyweight title over a year later.<\/p>\n<p>Alvarez\u2019s second undisputed title reign at super-middleweight then came to an end last September, with <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/terence-crawford-defines-career-with-remarkable-canelo-alvarez-victory\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terence Crawford moving up two weight divisions to claim a unanimous decision victory<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But despite this, Canelo has explained to <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Vxr1w-zecFg?si=IoU81K3z3EM8AAAZ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Froch On Fighting<\/a> that he could still compete for another two years, or perhaps even longer, depending on how frequently his opportunities materialise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know. I\u2019m thinking maybe two years. I don\u2019t need it, [but] I still enjoy it.
