\n\tThe image of a crying millennial standing in awe in front of Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney<\/a> World Resort has widely become the visual definition of a \u201cDisney Adult\u201d: the obsessive fan whose self-proclaimed love for all things Mouse House makes them a reoccurring easy target for ridicule on social media. <\/p>\n

\n\tBut in her new book that explores the modern-day Disney fan phenomenon, author AJ Wolfe<\/a> says one of her key findings was that the fandom is more often the ones mocking each other. \u201cOne thing that I learned really early on that was shocking to me is that Disney Adults<\/a> hate Disney Adults, too,\u201d Wolfe told Variety.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat was not in the original pitch to Simon & Schuster for the book,\u201d continued Wolfe, whose \u201cDisney Adults: Exploring (And Falling In Love With) A Magical Subculture\u201d<\/a> hit shelves Tuesday. \u201cBut as I started interviewing people, and I would ask them the question of, hey, do you get a lot of flack from people in your family and whatever, for being a Disney adult, and they make fun of you and stuff? And they\u2019re like, \u2018Kind of, but we don\u2019t really care about that. The worst part about being a Disney Adult is other Disney Adults.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile that might seem confusing at first to those immune to the Magic Kingdom\u2019s draw, Wolfe \u2014 who is the founder of the popular Disney Food Blog<\/a> and a proud Disney Adult herself \u2014 explains the issue here comes down to a pecking order.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s hierarchical: Who\u2019s been to more hotels, who\u2019s got the annual pass and who doesn\u2019t?\u201d Wolfe said. \u201cAnd I had a couple people I talked to who actually said that other Disney fans were like, \u2018We feel sorry for you that you don\u2019t have an annual pass.\u2019 And it\u2019s like, what? But that is very much in evidence.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAnd then Wolfe says there\u2019s the issue of those obsessive park-goers who make a habit of using their regular access to buy exclusive parks merch and resell it at a markup, prompting the question if those fans \u201ctaking advantage of the community\u201d can even be considered Disney Adults.<\/p>\n
