The Capture, the near-perfect thriller featuring stars from Doctor Who and Broadchurch, is back on TV tonight as the third season<\/a> gets under way. With a brand new case at the centre, could it be a triumphant return for the acclaimed BBC series?<\/p>\n

The action picks up as Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) is appointed Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command, with the nation in a climate of distrust following a series of scandals.<\/p>\n

Rachel attempts to regain public trust with the unveiling of a new surveillance system, but she is thrust into more immediate danger as she is in the middle of a deadly terror attack in London.<\/p>\n

“How do you protect the truth, in a world where lies are daily currency? And with the proliferation of deepfakes, how can we trust what we see?” reads the synopsis for the new season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After a wait of nearly four years, the conspiracy thriller is back on the small screen tonight, with the first episode of its third \u2013 and potentially final \u2013 season premiering at 9pm on BBC One. The instalment will also stream on BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n

The first two seasons, which aired in 2019 and 2022 respectively, were both acclaimed by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, the first season currently has an impressive approval rating of 92%, while the follow-up has a perfect 100% score.<\/p>\n

While there are only a few reviews for the third season<\/a>, the response seems to be positive so far, with The Independent<\/a> calling it “BBC\u2019s most underrated drama” and “the most prescient show on television”.<\/p>\n

RadioTimes.com<\/a> was also full of praise, opining: “The best thriller on TV is back, back with a bang as it goes more ridiculous, but also more propulsive and mind-bending than ever before.”<\/p>\n

The series, which also stars Doctor Who’s Indira Varma and Broadchurch’s Andrew Buchan, is rumoured to be concluding with its latest season. If that’s confirmed, at least the show will go out with a bang, as writer Ben Chanan teased that the third part<\/a> has “the best episode we’ve ever made”.<\/p>\n
