{"id":464627,"date":"2026-03-08T18:06:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-08T18:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/464627\/"},"modified":"2026-03-08T18:06:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-08T18:06:12","slug":"artist-linda-ross-to-create-painting-in-real-time-in-gourock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/464627\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist Linda Ross to create painting in \u2018real-time\u2019 in Gourock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Linda Ross will be showcasing her beautiful Scottish landscapes and seascapes at Medinelli\u2019s pop-up shop from Monday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Inverkip artist wants to create a work of art \u2018live\u2019 in the shop as the week progresses and has pledged to document its evolution on social media.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Linda Ross with one of her creations (Image: Alex Craig)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda, 60, said she hopes art fans across Inverclyde and beyond will come in and have a look.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cShowing people how you work through things is quite a big thing to put out there.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cEvery artist is different, and there\u2019s no guarantee that will end up a happy painting in the end.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI might not finish it!\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt will let people see the progression of a painting and the different stages of what you go through as an artist when you\u2019re creating something.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m always trying to inject something new into my work.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI think people will be really interested in it.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda attended Moorfoot Primary and Gourock High and was \u2018always doodling, painting, and winning prizes for art\u2019.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  After she left school, she completed a diploma in commercial art and design at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/cardonald\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Cardonald<\/a> College which honed her skills in jewellery, pottery, photography, and graphics.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  When she left college with her qualification in hand, Linda sadly decided that at that point in her life, following a career in art was not for her as family life took over.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She worked at CID Hire for 11 years before taking on a role as advertising administrator at the \u00a0Telegraph from 1995 to 2000.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda worked at the RBS Mortgage Centre in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk\/local-news\/greenock-news\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Greenock<\/a> for 12 years, and at RBS in Gogarburn, and it was while she was working for RBS that she decided she needed a change.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: \u201cI took myself to Cornwall and lived in a caravan in my horse\u2019s field with my two dogs.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI had gone from a high-pressure job and went down there and worked in a golf and country club.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI felt totally rejuvenated after it. I came back really relaxed.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  When she returned to Inverclyde in 2011, Linda worked for EE for three years and for just over a decade, she has been working for Virgin Money.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  In October 2023, Linda had an urge to pick up some charcoals and doodle \u2013 and the skills which she hadn\u2019t used for almost four decades were reawakened. \u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Soon after she started creating again, Linda realised that she needed a studio.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cMy paintings were getting bigger and bigger and I couldn\u2019t paint in my living room any more.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img  \/><\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda took studio space at Greenock Workshops in Terrace Road and then moved to the Old West Kirk.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She paints \u2018big and bold\u2019 creations using acrylics and oils and says her works are \u2018very Scottish\u2019.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda said: \u201cLiving around here and the views that we have, I\u2019m never short of topics and themes, or things to draw on for inspiration.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cPeople always ask if a painting is of a specific place. I usually say \u2018where does it take you?\u2019\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cSome of them are of actual places but some are more about a feeling of a place.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI hope my paintings help to create memories for people.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda said spending time in the Old West Kirk studio space, which is home to five other local artists, feels great.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cIt\u2019s a big relief for me as soon as I get into the studio.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI got lost for a while but I feel as if I\u2019ve found myself again.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda, who is mum to Craig, 36, and Heather, 34, and has two dogs, chocolate Labrador Piper and parson terrier Alfie, said she\u2019s looking forward to speaking to people when they stop by the pop-up shop next week.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: \u201cIt\u2019s great when people come in and have a chat and give me feedback.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWhen someone stands and looks at a painting for ages I think \u2018I created that\u2019.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt\u2019s great to know my art is having such an effect on that person.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI love hearing and seeing people\u2019s reactions to what I\u2019ve created.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Linda said she\u2019s proud to be part of a really supportive artistic community in Inverclyde.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cThere\u2019s a really nice community here and we all pull together.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThere\u2019s always someone here to offer support and guide you along.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Linda Ross will be showcasing her beautiful Scottish landscapes and seascapes at Medinelli\u2019s pop-up shop from Monday.
