A Bromley woman caught after a large fly\u2011tip in the street has been ordered to pay \u00a3919, including a \u00a3440 fine. The fine was issued following an investigation that was sparked by the discovery of the huge amount of rubbish dumped in Star Lane, St Mary Cray<\/a> in November 2025.<\/p>\n Among the rubbish dumped on Star Lane was a wooden fence panel, building waste, garden waste, empty cans of paint and plastic bags and bottles. When contacted Marie Lamb, of Swallowtail Close in Orpington<\/a>, failed to respond to Bromley Council<\/a> to provide information relating to the disposal of her waste.<\/p>\n The council issued a Section 108 Notice and a reminder letter was issued two weeks later, granting a further seven days to respond, but no response was received and prosecution followed.<\/p>\n Lamb was prosecuted on February 24 under the Single Justice Procedure. She was ordered to pay a fine of \u00a3440, a victim surcharge of \u00a3176 and \u00a3300 in prosecution costs, totalling \u00a3916.<\/p>\n A council spokesperson said: \u201cWe are continuing to target the fly-tippers with our zero-tolerance approach, and we do investigate all incidents of fly-tipping. If you receive an enquiry notice from the council, it is important to respond as it is a legal requirement, and you may have information which could help trace whoever dumped the rubbish.\u201d<\/p>\n The spokesperson added: \u201cIf you are using someone to dispose of your bulky waste, please always make sure that whoever you hire is a bona fide waste carrier; this is ultimately part of your legal duty of care which will also help stop fly-tipping.\u201d<\/p>\n Residents are reminded that waste must only be given to a licensed waste carrier and that checks should always be made to ensure waste is disposed of responsibly.<\/p>\n Residents can check that the person or business they are using to dispose of waste is a legally registered waste carrier<\/a>. Fly\u2011tipping can be reported online at: www.bromley.gov.uk\/report<\/a><\/p>\n Residents can also dispose of bulky items of waste at the Weekend Reuse and Recycling Centre on Baths Road or by booking an appointment for the council to collect items direct with details on the council\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
