Novak Djokovic said that even at \u206038-years-old he still has long-term goals and is keen to defend his Olympic title from \u200cParis at the Los Angeles Games in 2028.<\/p>\n
Djokovic<\/a> described his \u200cwin over Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> to claim the \u200cgold medal at the 2024 Summer Games as the \u200cbiggest sporting success of his storied career, but \u200cthe Serb will be 41 when the LA Games get underway.<\/p>\n “That’s one of the long-term goals, to reach the \u200cOlympics. That would be nice,” he \u2060told reporters after \u200chis second-round win over Kamil Majchrzak<\/a> at Indian Wells on \u200bSaturday.<\/p>\n “It’s still a long way off. I think at my age and this stage \u200bof my career, every year seems like a longer period than it is for anyone who is \u2060younger.<\/p>\n “But I’ll try \u200bto make it, definitely one of the motivations, so I’ll try to be there.”<\/p>\n Andy Murray<\/a> is the only man to successfully defend an Olympic singles \u200cgold medal. Djokovic, the winner of 24 Grand Slams, won bronze at the Beijing Games in 2008.<\/p>\n Playing in his first match since his impressive run at the Australian Open that included a thrilling five-set semi-final win over Jannik Sinner<\/a>, Djokovic needed some time to shake the rust off but ultimately prevailed 4-6 6-1 6-2<\/a> over Majchrzak.<\/p>\n “It’s good \u200cto be back on tour,” he said.<\/p>\n “Five weeks \u200bwith no official match, I knew that the \u200cfirst match in such a long time will be a little bit tricky with conditions that are quite challenging,” he said, referring to the wind gusts in the California desert.<\/p>\n Next up \u2060for the third \u2060seed is American Aleksandar \u200cKovacevic<\/a>.<\/p>\n Alcaraz well poised to extend winning streak<\/p>\n Djokovic believes world number one Alcaraz has what it takes to keep his 2026 winning streak alive, and the Serbian star, who won 41 straight matches to open 2011, should know.<\/p>\n Alcaraz pushed his perfect 2026 record to 13-0 with a 6-2, 6-3<\/a> victory over Grigor Dimitrov<\/a> at the Indian Wells ATP Masters on Saturday.<\/p>\n He said before the tournament that a dozen straight wins, with titles at the Australian Open and the ATP Qatar Open, had made him realise just how remarkable Djokovic’s 41-match streak was.<\/p>\n But Djokovic said there’s no reason the 22-year-old Spaniard can’t keep piling up the wins.<\/p>\n “He can do it,” Djokovic said. “He has everything that you need to have in terms of the game, in terms of the adaptability to different surfaces, and level of fitness and recovery that he has shown and matured over the years.<\/p>\n “He needs to keep his body healthy.
