Charlie Puth<\/a>\u00a0has been named as the chief music officer of the\u00a0AI<\/a>-powered music platform Moises.<\/p>\n

The Salt Lake City-based music tech company trains its AI models on licensed songs, offering a range of tools for musicians, composers and producers, including stem separation and isolation and chord identification. Users can upload their music and use the tools to generate additional instrumental parts.<\/p>\n

In his new role, Puth will offer guidance and feedback to Moises on the development of their platform and their creative direction, using his musical expertise to improve the product.<\/p>\n

Speaking about joining Moises, Puth has said:\u00a0\u201cEvery musician I know is using Moises, and\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0been using it in my own creative process for years.\u00a0It\u00a0opens up\u00a0possibilities that used to take hours or expensive studio setups, whether\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0isolating vocals to study technique or experimenting with arrangements in real time. AI, when done right,\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0here to replace musicians.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0here to help artists learn, explore, and bring their ideas to life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Moises will now host a global remix competition, dubbed Moises Jam Session. Users can access the stems to Puth\u2019s new single \u2018Beat Yourself Up\u2019 and remix or cover the song, with a $100,000\u00a0cash prize on the line.<\/p>\n

That song is the latest taste of Puth\u2019s upcoming fourth album \u2018Whatever\u2019s Clever!\u2019,\u00a0which will be out on March 27, after being delayed for three weeks to avoid\u00a0Harry Styles<\/a>\u2019 \u2018Kiss All\u00a0The\u00a0Time. Disco,\u00a0Occasionally<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In other AI news,\u00a0Apple Music<\/a>\u00a0will now\u00a0let users know if they are listening to music that was made using the technology<\/a>, following\u00a0a study last year that revealed that 97 per cent of people \u201ccan\u2019t tell the difference\u201d between real and AI music<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before then, figures in 2024 warned that\u00a0people working in music were likely to lose a quarter of their income to AI over the following four years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As well as Apple, Deezer has also tackled the rise of AI-generated content \u2013 which it said in September\u00a0made up 28 per cent of content on the platform<\/a> \u2013 sharing that it had demonetised 85 per cent of all AI-generated tracks on its site using an AI-detection tool.<\/p>\n

Bandcamp has banned all AI-created tracks<\/a>\u00a0too, saying: \u201cWe reserve the right to remove any music on suspicion of being AI-generated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0Spotify confirmed that it was cracking down on AI as well, and removing 75million \u201cspammy tracks\u201d and targeting impersonators.<\/a>\u00a0That\u00a0statement followed a report which claimed that\u00a0AI-generated songs were being uploaded to dead musicians\u2019 Spotify profiles without permission<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Paul McCartney<\/a>,\u00a0Kate Bush<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Elton John<\/a> are among the major British artists to have urged Keir Starmer to protect the work of creatives<\/a>, and\u00a0the Prime Minister told\u00a0NME<\/a>\u00a0in 2025 that the government were working to \u201cget the balance right.\u201d<\/p>\n

This week,\u00a0SZA said she feels \u201cat war\u201d with the technology as a Black artist<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s happening disproportionately with Black music,\u201d she said. \u201cWhy am I hearing AI covers of Olivia Dean<\/a>, when Olivia Dean just came the fuck out? She can\u2019t even collect the streams. I\u2019m also really offended by the type of Black music that\u2019s coming out of AI.
