\n\tKate Winslet<\/a> is venturing from Pandora to Middle-earth.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe beloved actress, who was recently in James Cameron\u2019s \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash,\u201d is in talks to star in \u201cLord of the Rings<\/a>: The Hunt for Gollum.\u201d She\u2019ll join Andy Serkis, who is directing in addition to reprising his role as the creature from the original trilogy. Warner Bros. hasn\u2019t confirmed who will appear in the upcoming film, but Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen are rumored to be returning as Frodo Baggins and Gandalf, respectively. <\/p>\n

\n\tPeter Jackson, who originally adapted the J. R. R. Tolkien novel for the big screen, is producing \u201cThe Hunt for Gollum\u201d with his creative partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. They \u201cwill be involved every step of the way,\u201d Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said during a 2024 earnings call<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis project will reunite Winslet with Jackson, who directed her in 1994\u2019s \u201cHeavenly Creatures.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Hunt for Gollum\u201d is slated to release in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027. Plot details haven\u2019t been confirmed but the story is reportedly set between the events of \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d and \u201cThe Fellowship of the Ring.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWarner Bros. is in the process of being sold to Paramount Skydance, which could throw the studio\u2019s development slate into disarray. However the potential merger is unlikely to interrupt plans for \u201cThe Hunt for Gollum\u201d because \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d is one of the premier film franchises at Warner Bros. Its \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d and prequel series \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d were major box office winners with each trilogy grossing around $2.8 billion at the global box office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Kate Winslet is venturing from Pandora to Middle-earth.
