(Image credit: Firefly Aerospace)<\/p>\n<p id=\"e661f1d7-e5d9-4eaa-9859-7a366a129cd3\">The test-stand explosion was eventually traced to &#8220;a process error during stage one integration that resulted in a minute hydrocarbon contamination,&#8221; according to a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/fireflyspace.com\/missions\/alpha-flta007\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/fireflyspace.com\/missions\/alpha-flta007\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Firefly update in November<\/a>, which ruled out a design flaw in the rocket and cleared its path back to the launch pad.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"e661f1d7-e5d9-4eaa-9859-7a366a129cd3-1\">Nevertheless, Firefly changed &#8220;Stairway to Seven.&#8221; The company reframed it as a test flight, focusing on achieving &#8220;nominal first and second stage performance,&#8221; according to a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/fireflyspace.com\/missions\/alpha-flta007\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/fireflyspace.com\/missions\/alpha-flta007\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">mission description<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stairway to Seven&#8221; took to this skies this evening (March 11) from Space Launch Complex-2 at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/34147-vandenberg-air-force-base.html\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/34147-vandenberg-air-force-base.html\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/34147-vandenberg-air-force-base.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vandenberg Space Force Base<\/a> in California, with liftoff at 8:50 p.m. ET (0050 GMT on March 12).<\/p>\n<p>At approximately 2 minutes, 40 seconds into flight, Alpha successfully executed first-stage separation, jettisoning its main booster as the rocket&#8217;s upper stage continued powering its way to orbit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>Following fairing ejection about 30 seconds later, Alpha cut off its upper-stage engine about 8 minutes after liftoff and reached orbit as planned, 151 miles (243 kilometers) above Earth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mission success! Alpha Flight 7 achieved nominal performance and validated key systems ahead of our Block II configuration upgrade.
