Middlesbrough suffered from similar problems as they were beaten 1-0 by Charlton Athletic at the Riverside.<\/p>\n
Facing a low block again, it was the same issue in recent home draws against Oxford United and Leicester City. This time, however, they didn\u2019t even manage to take a point.<\/p>\n
Conor Coady\u2019s 59th minute goal meant Charlton left with all three points, as Boro failed to capitalise on Ipswich\u2019s slip up 24 hours previously. All of this, despite having 34 shots over the 90 minutes, and 77% of possession.<\/p>\n
But if you don\u2019t put the ball in the back of the net\u2026 Here\u2019s how the Boro players rated on another frustrating evening.<\/p>\n
Sol Brynn – 7<\/p>\n
Nothing he could do with the goal, but made one big save in the first half with the score still 0-0. Otherwise, he was untested.<\/p>\n
Callum Brittain – 6<\/p>\n
Tried to attack as much as possible and get into the right areas. He was quite wasteful when he did get into those areas.<\/p>\n
Adilson Malanda – 7<\/p>\n
Solid outing as he returned to the side. As Boro attacked so much, he was left defending one-vs-one a couple of times, but he won every duel.<\/p>\n
Luke Ayling – 6<\/p>\n
Tried as much as he could to drive his side forward. But he\u2019ll no doubt be frustrated that many of his crosses failed to find their intended targets.<\/p>\n
Matt Targett – 5<\/p>\n
Missed a big early opportunity for Boro as he sliced a great chance wide. He then let Conor Coady get across him for the goal.<\/p>\n
Aidan Morris – 7<\/p>\n
Important early on in supporting against the counters. But as Charlton got less ambitious, Morris had to try and get more and more involved in the attack, which is not always the most convincing aspect of his game, but he regularly got into positive positions. He had Boro\u2019s best chance when he crashed one against the bar.<\/p>\n
Hayden Hackney – 6<\/p>\n
Tried as he may to drive his side forward, he just couldn\u2019t find a moment in this match. He had a few decent chances that he didn\u2019t put away.<\/p>\n
Morgan Whittaker – 5<\/p>\n
Enjoyed a bright start with a really good early chance, and then tested the keeper just before the break. Beyond that though, he struggled to get involved and did little when he did get on the ball.<\/p>\n
Riley McGree – 6<\/p>\n
Tried to provide that usual link and worked hard to try and make things happen for his side. There were some decent touches and moments, but he wasn\u2019t as involved as usual and not quite at his usual standards.<\/p>\n
Tommy Conway – 5<\/p>\n
Unconvincing in attack as Boro needed a number nine to step forward with a big moment. It\u2019s hard to think of a chance Conway had or even created.<\/p>\n
David Strelec – 5<\/p>\n
There were a couple of bright moments and flashes where he\u2019d fashion a chance or link play well. But in general, he struggled to make an impact in a game where he was regularly out-muscled.<\/p>\n
Substitutions<\/p>\n
Leo Castledine (For Whittaker, 57\u2019) – 6 – Was really bright and made a largely positive impact on the game. However, he was the wrong player in the right area on three occasions, as he missed the target with three headers.<\/p>\n
Jeremy Sarmiento (For Strelec, 57\u2019) – 5 – Saw plenty of the ball after coming on but didn\u2019t really do anything with it beyond running into trouble.<\/p>\n
Kaly Sene (For McGree, 75\u2019) – 5 – Didn\u2019t get into the game, with no chances falling his way as he found himself crowded out.<\/p>\n
Sontje Hansen (For Targett, 90\u2019) – N\/A<\/p>\n
