While his exact part is unknown, Deadline notes that he will be playing \u201cone of the villain roles.\u201d Casting for the project is expected to continue over the next couple of weeks. <\/p>\n<p>Smith will join the previously announced <a href=\"http:\/\/superherohype.com\/tag\/ryan-gosling\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gosling<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/superherohype.com\/tag\/mia-goth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Goth<\/a> in the film. Filming on Starfighter is expected to begin later this fall, according to Deadline.  Prior to the movie\u2019s official announcement, it was recently reported that Oscar winner\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/movies\/news\/1958332-mikey-madison-rejects-star-wars-movie-reason-revealed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mikey Madison<\/a>\u00a0was offered a role in the film. However, the Anora star ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/movies\/news\/1958332-mikey-madison-rejects-star-wars-movie-reason-revealed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">turned down the movie<\/a>, reportedly due to both parties not reaching an agreement regarding pay.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Levy, who previously directed Deadpool &amp; Wolverine, is attached to direct the project. <\/p>\n<p>Star Wars: Starfighter will take place approximately five years after the events of 2019\u2019s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.superherohype.com\/movies\/604026-star-wars-starfighter-mia-goth-joins-cast-ryan-gosling-movie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">will be a standalone project, according to Levy<\/a>. \u201cThis is a standalone. It\u2019s not a prequel, not a sequel. It\u2019s a new adventure. It\u2019s set in a period of time that we haven\u2019t seen explored yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in United States theaters on May 28, 2027, from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.superherohype.com\/tag\/lucasfilm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lucasfilm<\/a>.
