{"id":471507,"date":"2026-03-12T13:13:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T13:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/471507\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T13:13:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T13:13:12","slug":"cost-of-net-zero-by-2050-less-than-a-single-fossil-fuel-price-shock-ccc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/471507\/","title":{"rendered":"\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bCost of Net Zero by 2050\u00a0less\u00a0than a single fossil fuel price shock\u200b\u00a0\u2013\u00a0CCC\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Climate Change Committee (CCC) has released a new\u00a0report\u00a0to\u00a0complement\u00a0its\u00a02025\u00a0advice on the UK\u2019s Seventh Carbon Budget.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The independent, statutory body\u00a0tested its cost and energy security conclusions\u00a0against\u00a0different\u00a0scenarios.\u00a0It found that\u00a0the total\u00a0additional\u00a0cost of\u00a0a single fossil fuel price spike of 2022\u00a0magnitude\u00a0is likely to\u00a0be as large as the total net\u00a0additional\u00a0cost of meeting the\u00a0pathway to Net Zero\u00a0across every year\u00a0to 2050.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In all\u00a0scenarios,\u00a0achieving Net Zero\u00a0was found to be\u00a0a\u00a0more\u00a0cost-effective\u00a0path\u00a0for the UK\u00a0economy\u00a0than\u00a0continued reliance on fossil fuels,\u00a0bringing\u00a0a net benefit to society.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nigel Topping CMG,\u00a0Chair\u00a0of\u00a0the Climate Change Committee,\u00a0said:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been a lot of public interest in the cost of transitioning to a low carbon economy. Going through an economic transition is exciting, but a sense of uncertainty about the future is completely reasonable.
