{"id":473985,"date":"2026-03-13T19:49:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T19:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/473985\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T19:49:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T19:49:13","slug":"paris-nice-harold-tejada-survives-late-issue-and-launches-daring-attack-to-win-stage-6-solo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/473985\/","title":{"rendered":"Paris-Nice: Harold Tejada survives late issue and launches daring attack to win stage 6 solo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"a8efb1f3-8883-4d3c-954c-6e42fbf476d3\">A daring late attack over the top of the final climb of stage 6 of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/paris-nice\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/paris-nice\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/paris-nice\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paris-Nice<\/a> has netted 28-year-old Colombian <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/harold-alfonso-tejada-canacue\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/harold-alfonso-tejada-canacue\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/harold-alfonso-tejada-canacue\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harold Tejada<\/a> (XDS-Astana) his first WorldTour victory and the second win of his pro career.<\/p>\n<p>Searing down the broad descent off the cat. 2 C\u00f4te de Saignon and through the narrow streets of the finish town of Apt, Tejada finished just a handful of seconds ahead of a small group led by <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/dorian-godon\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/dorian-godon\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/dorian-godon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dorian Godon<\/a> (Ineos Grenadiers) and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/lewis-askey\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/lewis-askey\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/lewis-askey\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lewis Askey<\/a> (NSN).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"a8efb1f3-8883-4d3c-954c-6e42fbf476d3-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">After the remnants of a day-long break of four were reeled in thanks to Lidl-Trek&#8217;s chase and a brief skirmish between some of the favourites, Tejada made the most of the GC riders&#8217; mutual control to go clear for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Article continues below <\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">On the first non-GC day of Paris-Nice since Monday&#8217;s sprint into Montargis, leader <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/jonas-vingegaard\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/jonas-vingegaard\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/jonas-vingegaard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonas Vingegaard<\/a> (Visma-Lease a Bike) maintained his overall safely for a third straight day, and the Danish star will continue at the head of affairs as the race reaches its final crunch weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve very grateful to my teammates because I had a lot of problems with my bike,&#8221; Tejada said about the mechanical just before the final climb which led to a frantic chase to get back on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But [Aleksandr] Vinokourov&#8221; \u2013 Astana team manager and former Paris-Nice winner \u2013 &#8220;advised me to be ready to jump over the top of the climb and on the downhill that followed and that&#8217;s exactly what I did.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">&#8220;It&#8217;s my first WorldTour win and it&#8217;s taken a lot of patience and perseverance to get here. It was only when Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers), Luxembourg&#8217;s current national champion Arthur Kluckers (Tudor), Steff Cras (Soudal-QuickStep) and UAE Team Emirates-XRG racer Igor Arrieta went clear that things finally began to settle down again.<\/p>\n<p>With none of them at less than 35 minutes down overall on GC, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/road\/teams\/uci-worldtour\/2026\/visma-lease-a-bike\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/road\/teams\/uci-worldtour\/2026\/visma-lease-a-bike\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/road\/teams\/uci-worldtour\/2026\/visma-lease-a-bike\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Visma-Lease a Bike<\/a> had no issue whatsoever with the quartet drawing clear, and for the next few hours, the race trundled on uneventfully as far as the Col de l\u2019Aire De\u00ef Masco (7.2 km at 4.3%), 33 kilometres from the line.<\/p>\n<p>            What to read next<\/p>\n<p>On the climb itself, Lidl-Trek&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/sren-kragh-andersen\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/sren-kragh-andersen\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/sren-kragh-andersen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S\u00f8ren Kragh Andersen<\/a> ripped out of the peloton, reducing the breakaway quartet&#8217;s advantage to 31 seconds at the summit.\u00a0 The Danish national champion was clearly a man on a mission, sweeping up a fading Cras on the descent and storming on with the Belgian in his wake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Kragh Andersen and Cras were then unable to maintain their effort to keep the bunch at bay on the long, largely flat approach to the final key climb of the day, Tarling&#8217;s time trialling skills helped maintain the leading trio&#8217;s scant advantage. At the foot of the four-kilometre cat. 2 C\u00f4te de Saignon, Arrieta and Tarling forged on despite\u00a0Kluckers fading early, but Lidl-Trek&#8217;s Lennard K\u00e4mna and Victor Campenaerts (Visma-Lease a Bike) drove so hard it proved fatal for the break in any case.<\/p>\n<p>As soon the two leaders were caught, Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious), fifth overall, opened up a final round of hostilities, with Vingegaard and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/kevin-vauquelin\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/kevin-vauquelin\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/riders\/kevin-vauquelin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">K\u00e9vin Vauquelin<\/a> (Ineos Grenadiers) quickly following the Bahrain-Victorious racer as he tried to go clear. Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal-QuickStep) tested his luck late in the hills for a second day running, too, but finally it was Tejada who managed to escape the clutches of the two-dozen strong lead group of favourites.<\/p>\n<p>Once unleashed and with the prospect of a first WorldTour win to spur him on, Tejada proved unstoppable, blasting down the short stretch of downhill then picking his way through the very technical finale of slightly rising, narrow streets with his handful of seconds&#8217; advantage intact.
