A report has emerged revealing a key update in Manchester United’s search for a new permanent manager following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. <\/p>\n

Michael Carrick<\/a> replaced Amorim in January and was put in charge for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

Under Carrick’s tutelage, Man United<\/a> have enjoyed a stunning resurgence, having beaten the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.<\/p>\n

Despite losing their game at Newcastle United, the club’s upturn and form has led to calls for Carrick to be considered for the gig on a full-time basis.<\/p>\n

However, several high-profile managers are believed to be in the running, including Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner.<\/p>\n

Not to mention Julian Nagelsmann, who has been described as a ‘mastermind’ in a previous Sky Sports<\/a> report.<\/p>\n

But, according to Football Insider<\/a>, Carrick remains ahead of Nagelsmann in the race to be appointed as their next permanent manager.<\/p>\n

Nagelsmann is currently preparing Germany’s World Cup campaign at this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.<\/p>\n

Even though he is contracted until 2028, Man United have expressed an interest in recruiting him ahead of the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n

He is believed to be open to taking the Man United job after the World Cup<\/p>\n

The report, though, claims while the 38-year-old German is on the club’s radar, he is not their first choice.<\/p>\n

Carrick is still in the ‘box seat’ to be Man United’s next permanent manager after impressing since taking over from Amorim.<\/p>\n

Speaking publicly about the ex-Red Devils midfielder for the first time since his appointment, Sir Jim Ratcliffe praised the 44-year-old’s spell in charge.<\/p>\n

“He is doing an excellent job, yes, absolutely,” he told Sky Sports News.<\/p>\n

But Ratcliffe refused to be drawn on whether he’d appoint Carrick on a full-time basis, adding: “No, not going there.”<\/p>\n

Carrick has improved Man United’s performances on the pitch and has inspired a Champions League charge.<\/p>\n
