Hemsworth debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor, the 2011 superhero feature, and became a founding member of the franchise\u2019s iteration of the Avengers. However, in May 2025, a video was shared through his official social media about Thor\u2019s legacy, sparking rumors about his departure.<\/p>\n

Hemsworth dispelled the rumors claiming that he is leaving the MCU during a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. When asked about the Legacy of Thor video<\/a>, its impact on fans, the speculations about his exit, and whether he was really saying goodbye to the character, Hemsworth laughed and responded, \u201cIt was certainly not the intent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The actor then offered details about how the video came to be. \u201cTo be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, \u2018Oh, this could be cool. We\u2019ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Yeah, cool. It\u2019s been great.\u2019 So we penned it together, and off I went to do something else,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

However, Hemsworth and his team soon discovered that fans were wrongly interpreting the video. \u201cBut then I had a few people ask me about it, and someone on my team said, \u2018Ugh, we\u2019ve given the wrong impression here,\u2019 the Extraction star elaborated.<\/p>\n

Hemsworth told the outlet that they didn\u2019t do any \u201cdamage control\u201d because they didn\u2019t think it was necessary, before accepting that \u201ca lot was read into a little.\u201d He proceeded to note he was already beginning \u201canother chapter of this character\u201d and that playing Thor \u201chas been the biggest part\u201d of his career. He added, \u201cSo [the video] was a moment of gratitude, and it wasn\u2019t anything else. But it definitely got misconstrued and perceived in a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n
