After months of rumours and speculation<\/a>, Bethesda has today lifted the lid on its next batch of content for Starfield<\/a> – with a huge free update, a new premium expansion and the game’s PS5 release all landing on April 7th, 2026.<\/p>\n

First off, let’s talk about the broader update, dubbed Free Lanes and set to bring plenty of new content to Starfield players on all platforms. This update has a big focus on interplanetary travel, where “players can use cruise mode to travel from planet to planet within a star system”, encountering new experiences along the way.<\/p>\n

“Free Lanes is a free update that adds significant new features and systems designed to deepen the core Starfield experience for both new and returning players, most significantly opening up interplanetary travel within systems. With this update, players can use cruise mode to travel from planet to planet within a star system, where they\u2019ll experience frequent encounters and activities and spend some quality time on their ship with their crew.<\/p>\n

Bethesda has also given us a feature list for Free Lanes, which we’ll chuck down below:<\/p>\n

\u25cf New locations \u2013 A number of new Encounters, POIs, Dungeons, notable increase in variety for players to discover<\/p>\n

\u25cf X-Tech \u2013 A new resource used to upgrade weapons, ship modules, and more<\/p>\n

\u25cf Enemy modifiers \u2013 New enemy tiers with performance modifiers, such as extra shielding, more frequent attacks, or elemental damage<\/p>\n

\u25cf Moon Jumper \u2013 New land vehicle<\/p>\n

\u25cf Outpost improvements \u2013 Cross-outpost storage & Milliewhale pet<\/p>\n

\u25cf New crew \u2013 Muria and the mini-bot<\/p>\n

\u25cf Starborn Improvement \u2013 Ability to bring a limited number of items through the Unity to a NG+<\/p>\n

The next interesting development for Starfield on Xbox is the introduction of Terran Armada; the game’s second premium expansion. “Players get the chance to shape the future of humanity” in DLC2, and although this is a paid add-on, existing Starfield Premium Edition (or Premium Upgrade<\/a>) owners will get this new expansion at no extra cost (it’ll be $10 if you don’t own either of these).<\/p>\n

Here’s a quick overview on Terran Armada:<\/p>\n

“Terran Armada introduces a new questline across the Settled Systems, with new characters, locations, enemies, quests, systems, and rewards. Players get the chance to shape the future of humanity in space as they combat the incursions of the Terran Armada\u2019s robotic forces in this brand new story DLC.”<\/p>\n

Finally, that rumoured price drop from earlier this month<\/a> does indeed coincide with the game’s PS5 release; Starfield will be available for \u00a344.99 \/ $49.99 \/ \u20ac49.99 across Xbox, PlayStation and PC from April 7th, 2026 – and of course it will remain in Xbox Game Pass<\/a> to help players try out some of this new content next month.<\/p>\n
