{"id":481194,"date":"2026-03-17T23:36:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T23:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/481194\/"},"modified":"2026-03-17T23:36:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T23:36:08","slug":"metas-next-headset-will-reportedly-have-2-5k-micro-oled-displays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/481194\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta&#8217;s Next Headset Will Reportedly Have 2.5K Micro-OLED Displays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to a Chinese VR news outlet, Meta&#8217;s next headset will use 2560\u00d72560 micro-OLED displays.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vrcoast.cn\/347874.html?ref=uploadvr.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> from VRcoast claims that micro-OLED display maker SeeYA Technology plans to clear its existing production lines to dedicate its full capacity to the display for Meta&#8217;s next headset.<\/p>\n<p>SeeYA is the provider of the micro-OLED displays in Bigscreen&#8217;s Beyond headsets, both generations, which are also 2560\u00d72560.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s unclear whether, if the report&#8217;s claims are true, the dedication of SeeYA&#8217;s production lines would affect Bigscreen&#8217;s supply availability. We&#8217;ve reached out to Bigscreen to ask about the report&#8217;s claims and we&#8217;ll update this article if we get a response.<\/p>\n<p>If the report is accurate, this will be Meta&#8217;s first ever headset to use micro-OLED, and its first non-LCD headset since the original Oculus Quest all the way back in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"kg-bookmark-container\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/graphics-depicting-metas-next-headset-found-in-quest-firmware\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>Graphics Depicting Meta\u2019s Next Headset Found In Quest Firmware<\/p>\n<p>Graphics depicting Meta\u2019s upcoming ultralight headset with a tethered compute puck, codenamed Phoenix, have been found in Quest firmware.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Meta-Phoenix-leaked-low-resolution-firmware-images.png\" alt=\"\" onerror=\"this.style.display = 'none'\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t been following along: multiple reports and sources indicate that Meta&#8217;s next headset, codenamed Phoenix, will be an ultralight device with an open periphery design and tethered puck that offloads both compute and the battery.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix will be strongly focused on virtual screens for productivity and entertainment, and other seated mixed reality and VR use cases.<\/p>\n<p>In June last year, The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/meta-ultralight-headset-with-puck-less-than-1000-wall-street-journal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> that Meta was targeting a price below $1000, though with the global memory shortage this plan might have changed since then. That same month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/meta-prioritizing-puffin-for-2026-pushing-out-quest-4-to-2027\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UploadVR reported<\/a> that the compute puck will run the same Horizon OS as Quest headsets, and that Meta had discussed names that included, but were not limited to, &#8216;Meta Quest Air&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In December, leaked internal Meta memos\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/meta-delaying-ultralight-headset-starting-work-on-quest-4\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">revealed<\/a>\u00a0that the company is targeting the first half of 2027 for the launch, a pushback from previous plans of late 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, low resolution graphics depicting Phoenix were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uploadvr.com\/graphics-depicting-metas-next-headset-found-in-quest-firmware\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discovered in the Quest firmware<\/a>, giving us our first real indication of what the headset might look like.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"According to a Chinese VR news outlet, Meta&#8217;s next headset will use 2560\u00d72560 micro-OLED displays.
