unveiled \u00a3500M schemes include Bolton Ryder Cup bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  This comes after Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham announced a range of investments across the city region backed by the national wealth fund.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Greater Manchester Combined Authority is now planning to submit a bid alongside developers Peel Land to host the Ryder Cup at Hulton Park, Over Hulton in 2035.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This will also include funding of \u00a369.8M to help build a new link road at Park Avenue, along with improved bus and cycling routes, with special bus services to be laid on during the tournament.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Burnham said: \u201cThe success of the BRIT Awards in Manchester shows\u00a0that we can\u00a0we attract and deliver\u00a0international\u00a0events\u00a0to a brilliant standard.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cCulture and sport will be major drivers of our good growth,\u00a0and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0why\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0bidding to host the biggest ever Ryder Cup in Bolton in 2035.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Greater Manchester Mayor Andy bespoke, world-class course at\u00a0Hulton Park.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cBut it will only be possible with the right infrastructure.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;We\u2019re\u00a0doing our bit to make it happen.&#8221;\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0committing up to \u00a370 million to\u00a0deliver\u00a0a\u00a0transport package to not only help spectators get to the site but deliver major benefits for the people living in the surrounding areas.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cAs well as the new jobs and tourist spend the Ryder Cup would\u00a0deliver,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0also a chance to deliver\u00a0a lasting\u00a0legacy.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe want to work with\u00a0Government to\u00a0align transport investment\u00a0to\u00a0the tournament\u00a0\u2013 delivering more frequent and modern trains on the Atherton line,\u00a0investing in better rail\u00a0stations\u00a0and speeding up work to connect the area to the Metrolink network.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0serious about making sure every part of Greater Manchester benefits from\u00a0our\u00a0approach to good growth.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cBy almost doubling our Good Growth Fund,\u00a0thanks to a landmark partnership with the National Wealth Fund and\u00a0new investment from Government,\u00a0we can invest in\u00a0bringing even more homes,\u00a0jobs\u00a0and opportunities to our communities.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>The Hulton Park scheme was approved by government planning inspectors (Image: Peel Land)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The \u00a3500M funding, which will be used for projects across Greater Manchester, came about after the National Wealth Fund decided to back the city region\u2019s Good Growth Fund.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The further \u00a3500M takes the total\u00a0capacity\u00a0to\u00a0almost\u00a0\u00a32\u00a0billion,\u00a0following on from more than \u00a3300M worth of transport funding\u00a0and \u00a3175M announced by the government.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u00a0Bringing the Ryder Cup to Hulton Park in 2035 would mark the first time the famous golf tournament has been hosted in England for more than 30 years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Around 350,000 fans are expected to attend if the tournament comes to Bolton as hoped.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bolton.gov.uk?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bolton Council<\/a>\u2019s planning committee had originally voted to refuse the plan to build an 18-hole luxury golf course at Hulton Park but were overruled by government inspectors in October 2022.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This kept the condition in place that for the plans to proceed, Bolton will need to be chosen as the host for the Ryder Cup in 2031 or 2035.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Town hall leaders hope that the \u00a369.8M investment in traffic improvements around Park Avenue will help address people\u2019s concerns scheme will aim to support delivery of the first phase of a new M61-M6 link road, new cycling and walking routes, and new bus routes to the Ryder Cup site.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Bolton Council leader Cllr Nick Peel said: \u201cWe have listened closely to the concerns of our residents and put forward a serious plan to tackle the persistent traffic problems in Westhoughton.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis major investment in the Park Avenue link road will not only ease that congestion but also unlock growth and create jobs at this key strategic location.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cGreater Manchester\u2019s backing for our Ryder Cup bid at nearby Hulton Park is further evidence of Bolton\u2019s growing reputation as a host of world-class events.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cMeanwhile, the proposed Mayoral Development Corporation will build on the regeneration success we\u2019ve already achieved in the town centre as we look ahead to the flagship redevelopment of Crompton Place.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Combined Authority say that hosting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/25941515.bolton-hulton-park-ryder-cup-coming-bolton-latest\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ryder Cup<\/a> could add more than \u00a31.2billion to the North West\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/25929917.concern-lee-hall-homes-will-go-ahead-without-ryder-cup\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">economy<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They say that restoring the historic parkland at Hulton Park would leave\u00a0a legacy\u00a0locally\u00a0for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/25301760.hulton-park-ryder-cup-golf-course-scheme-back-town-hall\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">generations<\/a>.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Professional golfer and Ryder Cup winner Tommy Fleetwood said: \u201cAs a golfer, a Ryder Cup being in England,\u00a0first and foremost, would be something\u00a0special.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On top of that, to do it in the\u00a0North West\u00a0of England, where\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0from, would be\u00a0amazing.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe have so much to offer, the people have a lot to offer, the infrastructure has a lot to offer, and I think it would be something that would be incredible.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0totally in favour of it and would be happy\u00a0to support as much as I can!\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWhenever it\u2019s on the Ryder Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world, and bringing that to
