{"id":482019,"date":"2026-03-18T10:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T10:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/482019\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T10:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T10:54:11","slug":"amdl-circle-designs-visitor-centre-for-carlo-scarpas-brion-tomb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/482019\/","title":{"rendered":"AMDL Circle designs visitor centre for Carlo Scarpa&#8217;s Brion tomb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Milan studio AMDL Circle has unveiled its design of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/visitors-centres\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">visitor centre<\/a> for the Brion tomb in San Vito d&#8217;Altivole, Italy, created by Italian architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/carlo-scarpa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlo Scarpa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Conceived by <a href=\"https:\/\/amdlcircle.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AMDL Circle<\/a> as a &#8220;new threshold&#8221; for the renowned concrete memorial, the brick-wrapped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/pavilions-tag\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pavilion<\/a> will house a reception and cafe alongside exhibition and study space.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2306515 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/amdl-circle-visitor-centre-brion-tomb-italy_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x602.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior render of the Brion Tomb visitor centre in Italy\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1671\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>AMDL Circle has designed a visitor centre for Carlo Scarpa&#8217;s Brion tomb in San Vito d&#8217;Altivole<\/p>\n<p>Scarpa was commissioned to design the Brion Cemetery, or Brion tomb, in 1968 by the widow of Giuseppe Brion, co-founder of electronics firm Brion-Vega. It is considered one of Scarpa&#8217;s most significant projects.<\/p>\n<p>The centre is being created in response to the growing number of visitors and will occupy an existing residential building on the site linked to the Scarpa-designed tomb by a tree-lined avenue.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2306512 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/amdl-circle-visitor-centre-brion-tomb-italy_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x1205.jpg\" alt=\"Rendered view of brick pavilion by AMDL Circle\" width=\"1671\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Its brick exterior will have cruciform openings<\/p>\n<p>According to AMDL Circle, the renovation aims to create a &#8220;liminal space&#8221; that will serve as a &#8220;contemplative&#8221; entrance to the Brion tomb.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Carlo Scarpa&#8217;s delicate work was difficult to represent in a suburban house,&#8221; studio founder Michele De Lucchi said,&#8221; said studio founder Michele De Lucchi.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/05\/20\/thomas-sankara-mausoleum-burkina-faso-kere-architecture\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kere-architecture-thomas-sankara-mausoleum-sq_dezeen_2364_col_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Thomas Sankara Mausoleum by K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture unveils brick mausoleum for Burkina Faso&#8217;s former president\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had to create a space of decompression that would allow visitors to leave behind the traffic of the provincial road and enter the space of the sacred,&#8221; he continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We needed to make it a transitional architecture, as free from emphasis as possible, capable of a silent refinement, to establish a relationship not of competition, but of respectful dialogue with the monument.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2306513 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/amdl-circle-visitor-centre-brion-tomb-italy_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x603.jpg\" alt=\"Classroom space at visitor centre by AMDL Circle\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1673\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It will house a reception, cafe, exhibition space and study area<\/p>\n<p>Renders of the centre reveal the rectilinear brick structure topped with a thin, flat roof. It will be punctuated at its upper level by a grid of cruciform openings that will filter light and air through the interior.<\/p>\n<p>Deliberately raw and weathered elements, such as wood-framed openings and unfinished walls, were chosen to complement the centre&#8217;s red-brick walls.<\/p>\n<p>AMDL Circle said it will design the interior as a &#8220;porous environment&#8221; with flexible interiors capable of accommodating different configurations and changes in function over time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2306514 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/amdl-circle-visitor-centre-brion-tomb-italy_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x603.jpg\" alt=\"Exhibition space interior at the Brion Tomb visitor centre by AMDL Circle\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1673\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>A basement-level exhibition space will be dedicated to the memorial<\/p>\n<p>Once complete, the centre will house the reception and cafe at ground level.
