{"id":484352,"date":"2026-03-19T17:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T17:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/484352\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T17:27:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T17:27:08","slug":"health-authority-reporting-increase-in-exercise-induced-illness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/484352\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Authority Reporting Increase in Exercise-Induced Illness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is reporting an increase in cases of exercise-induced illness.<\/p>\n<p>Rhabdomyolysis, or rhabdo, is caused by intense exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Overexertion can cause muscle cells to leak into the bloodstream which can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal if not treated.<\/p>\n<p>NL Health Services is reporting 50 cases of the condition in the eastern-urban zone since October 1.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms include severe muscle pain, weak or swollen muscles and urine that resembles the colour of steeped tea.<\/p>\n<p>While physical activity is vital for health and well-being, any intense exercise should be done carefully with ample time set aside to rest afterwards. <\/p>\n<p>Anyone with symptoms of rhabdo should proceed to the emergency room or urgent care clinic as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13; Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is reporting an increase in cases of exercise-induced illness.
