{"id":484970,"date":"2026-03-20T01:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T01:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/484970\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T01:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T01:04:08","slug":"erling-haaland-invests-in-new-total-chess-world-championship-tour-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/484970\/","title":{"rendered":"Erling Haaland invests in new Total Chess World Championship Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/manchester-city\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester City<\/a> striker Erling Haaland has been announced as an investor in a new global chess tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 25-year-old is backing the Norway Chess organisation, which is set to launch the Total Chess World Championship Tour next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Four tournaments will be staged annually in different cities, with a world champion crowned across three disciplines &#8211; fast classic, rapid and blitz chess.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is being supported by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and a pilot tournament is planned for this autumn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Each season will have a minimum prize pool of $2.7m (\u00a32m) with Fide describing it as &#8220;one of the most significant developments in modern chess&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Speaking to the federation&#8217;s website, Haaland said chess was &#8220;an incredible game&#8221; and he likened it to football as &#8220;it sharpens your mind&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;You have to think quickly, trust your instincts and think several moves ahead. Strategy and planning are everything,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;m investing in Norway Chess because I believe the new Total Chess World Championship Tour can turn chess into an even bigger sport for spectators around the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been announced as an investor in a new global chess tour.
