There’s been renewed debate recently about whether Xbox should stick with its multiplatform plans or go back to exclusives<\/a>, but we’ve known for a while now that Starfield would be getting a PS5 release, and it’s set to fare pretty well.<\/p>\n

Starfield’s official PS5 release date was revealed on Monday alongside the new Free Lanes update and Terran Armada expansion<\/a>, and even though we’re still a few weeks away from launch on April 7th, Xbox and Bethesda’s sprawling action-RPG is already in the top three pre-orders on PS5 when looking at both the UK and US PSN stores.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the Starfield Premium Edition is outselling the standard version right now, with the Premium Edition including both the Shattered Space<\/a> and Terran Armada expansions at a slightly higher price.<\/p>\n

This likely means that Starfield will become the most pre-ordered game on PS5 once Crimson Desert<\/a> releases later today, and unless something major comes along in the meantime, it’s set to retain the top spot until April 7th.<\/p>\n

Whatever happens, Starfield is going to mark the first massive crossover from Xbox to PS5 that will be observed by new Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma<\/a>, and its success (or lack of) on PlayStation will likely play a role in determining how multiplatform releases are handled going forward. In any case, we don’t expect them to cease entirely.<\/p>\n

It’s also going to be interesting to see how Xbox’s South of Midnight<\/a> performs on both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch 2 when it arrives on March 31st (pre-orders haven’t begun for that one yet), while Double Fine’s Kiln<\/a> is releasing for Xbox, PC and PS5 on April 23rd. A busy month ahead for Xbox across various systems!<\/p>\n
