A British man has been arrested in Florida<\/a> on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to drown his daughter-in-law in a swimming pool.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mark Gibbon, 62, was on a luxury holiday with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, near Disney World, when he got into an argument about his will, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The grandfather, from Beaconsfield, in Buckinghamshire, allegedly kept trying to push the 33-year-old mother under the water at their holiday rental in a spat over the ‘stipulations of his will’.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His nine-year-old granddaughter jumped into the pool to try and save her mother but he reportedly pushed her away, police said.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘She advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown,’ deputies wrote. ‘[The victim] advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gibbon is a lighting technician who runs his own company called MRG Lighting. He has previously worked on television and film sets, as well as on music videos for Ed Sheeran<\/a>, Sam Smith<\/a> and Paloma Faith.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He allegedly only stopped the attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters said they had called the Sheriff’s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was taken into custody on August 3 at around 5.19pm where he allegedly admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law under the water but denied trying to drown her.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He claimed they were drinking when they got into a row about the will, reported Law and Crime<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said:\u00a0‘It’s great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Because Mr Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.’\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gibbon has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. He is next due in court on September 9.\u00a0<\/p>\n
