Former England captain John Terry has appeared to endorse calls for a burqa ban in Britain.<\/p>\n

The Chelsea legend responded to an Instagram post by Rupert Lowe, founder of the Restore Britain party, with three clapping emojis and a St George’s Cross.<\/p>\n

Lowe’s original post featured an image of a London Underground station displaying Bengali signage, accompanied by his pledge to prohibit the burqa and mandate English-only signs across the capital’s transport network.<\/p>\n

The former defender’s apparent has generated quite the stir on social media, with Lowe himself also responding.<\/p>\n

Lowe established Restore Britain in June 2025 following his departure from Reform UK, a party positioned on the right-wing to far-right of the political spectrum.<\/p>\n

The 68-year-old, who represents Great Yarmouth, was elected to Parliament in 2024 but was subsequently suspended from Reform UK amid allegations of threatening behaviour towards a colleague and workplace bullying.<\/p>\n

He denied these claims, maintaining he was the victim of a “witch hunt” after criticising party leader Nigel Farage.<\/p>\n

His new party’s platform includes the burqa prohibition and a commitment to English-only signage at London stations, with Lowe declaring: “Enough is enough. Vote Restore Britain to get our capital city back.”<\/p>\n

On Sunday morning, Lowe posted a robust defence of Terry following the backlash against the former centre-back.<\/p>\n

“I see that England\/Chelsea legend John Terry is taking some flak for applauding Restore Britain’s policy of banning the burqa and ensuring that all London stations use English, and English only,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

“This is the position the vast majority of the British people support.”<\/p>\n

Lowe dismissed the criticism directed at Terry, stating: “If we get called names? WHO CARES. It does not matter. We do not care, and nor should you. This isn’t 2015 anymore. These insults mean nothing.”<\/p>\n

He urged others to demonstrate similar resolve, adding: “More people need to show some courage and stand up for what the majority thinks.”<\/p>\n

Terry’s playing career stands among the most decorated in English football history, with five Premier League titles secured during his time at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n
