Sony has apparently informed developers<\/a> that it\u2019ll be phasing out the PSN<\/a> \u2013 or PlayStation Network \u2013 branding later this year, and the evidence has been staring us in the face all along.<\/p>\n

When the PSN briefly went offline<\/a> last night, we turned to the PSN Service Status page<\/a> for more information, which we noticed has been quietly rebranded to the PlayStation Service Status page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In fact, if you take a look at that page in particular, it doesn\u2019t mention PSN at all. That\u2019s not how we remember it!<\/p>\n

We took a look at the Wayback Machine<\/a> to find out when this change was initiated, and it turns out all PSN branding was removed late last year.<\/p>\n

If you look at the page in October 2025<\/a>, for example, it was titled PSN Service Status and clearly referred to the PlayStation Network at the top. That was all gone by December 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So this change has been staring us blankly in the face for a while. We suspect the company will be notifying developers now so it doesn\u2019t include the outdated language in any of their upcoming games.<\/p>\n

Does this mean much? Not really, no<\/a>. Judging by our traffic during the abovementioned outage, though, there are still plenty of people Googling the keywords \u2018PSN Down\u2019 when they can\u2019t get online.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t help but wonder how long this terminology will stick around, even if Sony chooses not to use it.<\/p>\n
