Welcome back to the City AM liveblog.<\/p>\n

Markets are in recovery mode after a dramatic intervention from President Donald Trump slapped a delay on his bombastic ultimatum.<\/p>\n

Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum<\/a> to the Iranian regime on Saturday night, where he called for the full re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

The strait is a vital shipping pathway, which sees around a fifth of the world\u2019s oil supply flowing through, has remained closed since conflict broke out but in the last few days select allies of Tehran have been allowed to pass through.<\/p>\n

The President wrote on Truth Social that the US would \u201chit and obliterate\u201d Iranian power plants if the strait was not fully reopened by 23:44 GMT on Monday.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards responded to Trump\u2019s ultimatum stating the Strait would \u201cbe completely closed and will not be opened until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt\u201d should Trump strike. <\/p>\n

But in a post on Monday, Trump said \u201cproductive\u201d talks had led to a delay.<\/p>\n

Markets bounced into the green as analysts sounded the \u2018TACO\u2019 siren \u2013 a term coined by investors as \u2018Trump Always Chickens Out\u2019 in his \u2018art of the deal\u2019 style negotiations. The price of oil also tipped under the $100 mark after starting the day at $112.<\/p>\n

Sir Keir Starmer is set to chair an emergency meeting today with Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey on the economic fallout of the war in Iran.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister has said the meeting will examine \u201cevery lever\u201d at the government\u2019s disposal for how to respond.<\/p>\n
