{"id":492559,"date":"2026-03-24T12:24:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T12:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/492559\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T12:24:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T12:24:15","slug":"sarwar-made-last-minute-decision-to-call-for-starmers-resignation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/492559\/","title":{"rendered":"Sarwar made last-minute decision to call for Starmer&#8217;s resignation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As Sarwar began his speech six weeks ago, a flurry of senior Labour ministers took to social media to express their support for the prime minister.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Scottish Labour leader says that although he had spoken to a number of colleagues at the time, he had kept his personal views &#8220;largely to himself&#8221;, insisting he was &#8220;not part of any coup or plot&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Since the resignation call, Sarwar says he has only personally spoken to the prime minister on the phone once.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prior to this, Sarwar said very few people in politics had as close a relationship with Starmer as he did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I think it&#8217;s safe to say that saying what I said will have hurt him,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Now, he says their relationship is &#8220;difficult, but still professional&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I do genuinely like him as a human being,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I do think he is a man of decency and integrity. I do think that he wants what&#8217;s best for our country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;But I&#8217;m the one who has got to face the electorate.
