{"id":493117,"date":"2026-03-24T19:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T19:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/493117\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T19:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T19:13:08","slug":"ipswich-fans-disgusted-and-ashamed-after-nigel-farage-photo-opportunity-at-portman-road-ipswich-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/493117\/","title":{"rendered":"Ipswich fans \u2018disgusted and ashamed\u2019 after Nigel Farage photo opportunity at Portman Road | Ipswich Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Ipswich Town has insisted it remains an \u201cinclusive and diverse\u201d organisation after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/nigel-farage\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nigel Farage<\/a> turned a tour of Portman Road into a political campaign event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">During a visit to the ground on Monday, Farage filmed himself inside the home dressing room, held up a shirt with the No 10 and his name on the back, and suggested he was in the running for the manager\u2019s job at the Suffolk club in a promotional video that was posted online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Farage said that Ipswich, who are third in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/championship\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Championship<\/a> table, \u201care really in contention\u201d to go back into the Premier League. \u201cLet\u2019s hope they do it,\u201d he said, \u201cbut if they don\u2019t, I think there\u2019s the chance here, and I\u2019ve had a chat with a few people, of the manager\u2019s job coming up next season and I\u2019m definitely on the shortlist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The video was immediately criticised by Ipswich supporters who variously described it as \u201cshameful\u201d, \u201cembarrassing\u201d and \u201cPR suicide for a family club\u201d. The club issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon distancing itself from the Reform Party leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIpswich Town Football Club has, over several years, hosted representatives from a range of political parties. The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe club will continue to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum as part of its role within the community. Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It is understood that Farage was not an invited guest at the club.
