This causes them to be able to\u00a0tolerate colder temperatures<\/a> in the North.<\/p>\n “Just by looking at that, it looks like the Joros could probably survive throughout most of the Eastern Seaboard here, which is pretty sobering,” Andy Davis, a research scientist at the University of Georgia, said in UGA Today.\u00a0<\/p>\n HERE’S WHAT TO DO IF YOU ENCOUNTER A GRIZZLY BEAR AS FIRST ONE EMERGES FROM HIBERNATION AT YELLOWSTONE<\/a><\/p>\n In a newer study that was published in the Arthropoda journal<\/a>, scientists at the University of Georgia<\/a> discovered that the insect can also tolerate loud vibrations and noises seen in urban settings. Unlike other animals<\/a>, they are able to settle in stressful environments.<\/p>\n “These Joro webs are everywhere in the fall<\/a>, including right next to busy roads, and the spiders seem to be able to make a living there,” Davis\u00a0said. “For some reason, these spiders seem urban tolerant.”<\/p>\n Joro spiders can survive better in a brief freeze, suggesting they can exist in a colder climatic region than the Southeast.<\/p>\n Experts said that Joro spiders are native to Asia<\/a> and can be found in Japan<\/a>, Korea, China, Indochina<\/a> and Nepal. They were first reported in the U.S. in 2014, and experts believe they likely arrived through materials imported from East Asia<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to Joro Watch, the insects are orb-weavers and are typically seen from September to October, when they build large webs ahead of laying their eggs. Adult males grow to about 0.25 inches in length and are brown, while females can reach up to 1.25 inches and are bright yellow.<\/p>\n “They are not aggressive and seem to be quite shy despite their size,” Dellinger said.<\/p>\n GIANT INVASIVE SPIDERS SPOTTED IN GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK<\/a><\/p>\n Although this species may appear terrifying, experts stress that they do not pose a threat to humans.<\/p>\n Like all spiders, the Joro spiders do have venom, but they are not in the same category as a Black Widow or Brown Recluse.
