Dubbed the Arm AGI CPU, it\u2019s another chip designed for inference, or running the cloud processing for AI tools like AI agents that can continue to spawn more and more tasks to run at once. The first company in line to use it is Meta, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d3b50dfc-31fa-45a8-9184-c5f0476f4504\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly struggled<\/a> to launch its own AI chips.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2026\/03\/meta-partners-with-arm-to-develop-new-class-of-data-center-silicon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">says it\u2019s both the lead partner and co-developer<\/a>, and plans to work on \u201cmultiple generations\u201d of the data center CPUs, for use along with hardware from other vendors like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/880513\/nvidia-meta-ai-grace-vera-chips\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/883593\/amd-forges-100-billion-deal-with-meta-for-ai-chips\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AMD<\/a>. Arm customers like Amazon AWS, Microsoft, Google, Marvell, Nvidia, Samsung, and others included congratulatory notes with the announcement. However, Qualcomm, which said it had achieved \u201ccomplete victory\u201d over Arm <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.qualcomm.com\/news-events\/press-releases\/news-details\/2025\/Qualcomm-Achieves-Complete-Victory-Over-Arm-in-Litigation-Challenging-Licensing-Agreements\/default.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with a court ruling last fall<\/a> in their case over the terms of licensing agreements, was not one of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Financial terms of the deal weren\u2019t revealed, nor was the number of chips Meta plans to use from Arm, which is currently owned by SoftBank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">According to Arm, its new chip runs on the Neoverse platform used by AWS Graviton, Nvidia Vera, Microsoft, and other AI chips, with up to 136 cores per CPU and 64 CPUs per air-cooled server rack. It says the AGI CPU can get twice as much performance per watt as traditional x86 CPUs while reducing memory bottlenecks, taking advantage of the design\u2019s long-running efficiency advantages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Other customers lined up for Arm\u2019s chip include Cerebras, Cloudflare, F5, OpenAI, Positron, Rebellions, SAP, and SK Telecom.
