On the race\u2019s hectic finish, Vingegaard told TNT Sports: \u201dI don\u2019t know [what happened].\u00a0He just went over the handle bar and I just hope he\u2019s okay. It looked really crazy but I just hope he\u2019s okay.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201dObviously, I didn\u2019t want to take advantage of a situation like that, so I decided at that moment to just wait for the bunch. I hope he\u2019s okay, and he can continue tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Race favourites Evenepoel and Vingegaard separated themselves from the peloton and built up a 20-second gap before the former spun out of control at a roundabout while staging a late charge for the finish.<\/p>\n

\u201dI didn’t expect the race to go like this,\u201d Vingegaard added. \u201dI expected it to be a bigger [leading] group.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201dHe [Evenepoel] went and I jumped across to him. He was very strong on the flat. I\u2019m happy I could jump across and work with him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201dI think at some points he wasn\u2019t really happy with me but that\u2019s cycling. That\u2019s how it is.\u201d<\/p>\n
Evenepoel eventually managed to remount his bike after crashing and cross the line, with the three kilometres to go rule meaning that he recorded the same time as the remainder of the peloton.<\/p>\n
\u201dI’m still standing, so that’s positive news,” Evenepoel said afterwards. <\/p>\n
“I wanted to go for the sprint and, right at that moment, there was quite a big hole. I hit it. I didn\u2019t see and it wasn\u2019t clear on the road. There were no markings, so I didn\u2019t see it and lost my bars.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked about the competition’s reaction and Vingegard\u2019s decision to slow down in the wake of the crash, Evenepoel replied: \u201dThe co-operation was amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the race, Evenepoel continued: \u201dI wanted to go for the finish line. We had quite a nice gap to go for the win. Normally, we would have sprinted for the win. But fate decided differently.<\/p>\n
\u201dThere are some bigger injuries so we will have to see tonight and tomorrow morning how everything is reacting. But like I said, I\u2019m still standing, nothing is broken, so that\u2019s positive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stage winner Dorian, who was also first to cross the line on Stage 1, said: \u201dYesterday evening I was a bit annoyed. I wasn\u2019t happy, so today I wanted to win again. <\/p>\n

“It was not so hard at the beginning. Then it was a lot of stress and tension and we were in quite a good position.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201dAnd then I saw Remco fool around with Vingegaard. All the riders on the team did an amazing job to help me catch them. It was amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Evenepoel\u2019s fall he added: \u201dI was fully concentrated on the sprint. For me, I caught them and just went for the win.\u201d<\/p>\n
Godon leads on general classification, 11 seconds clear of Evenepoel with Tom Pidcock in third (+16s) and Vingegaard fourth (+18s).<\/p>\n
Thursday’s fourth stage will see riders travel 174km from Mataro to Vallter.<\/p>\n
